The quest for a new bat.

I have been looking around for a new bat for a while. I am planning on purchasing on, at the beginning of next (English) season. I open the batting so have decided it would be a good idea to have a light bat. I've been looking at the newberry range, does anyone know of a place where I can find out what the different models do (or are made for eg. opening, big hitting) etc? Also the pricing of soem of them are around £250, I am willing to put this much money into a bat, but I have heard that usually more expensive bats, can crack and be damaged easily, will I be able to get it fixed for free? Or will more money have to be put into it continously fixing it? If so then I might settle for a middle of the range bat. I play cricket 2/3 times a week at quite a high level of cricket (Division 4) at the moment I am usuing a GM Duellist original, but It has been damaged.

If I had £250 to spend, I'd either shop around to get a Catalyst Original LE, a Hero 808 or an SXi Ultimate, anyone of the 3.

PheonixFire, The Hero 808 would only set you back £100, if you got an L.E it would set you back around £200.

To be honest I don't think I would ever get an L.E. because I don't really think there is a great difference in what you get, but a big difference in price. Does anyone know what the difference between all of the GM makes are? I think the Duellist has a raised middle, I have one, but an 808. I would like a wood finish and not for it to be covered in a plastic sheet.

It's well known that the Hero 808 is pretty much one of the best GM bats that you can get, excluding the ones that the Pros use.

^ Wouldn't a Hero L.E. or Original be better though? It would have a better willow grading. Do you know what the difference between all the GM shapes are?

Purist - Best for driving and strokemakers who play in the V, not much toe, but a good middle
Maxi - Best for hitting through the line and over the top, quite heavy
Hero - Same as the Maxi, but lighter
Duellist - Pretty light, and for players who like hitting over the top
Catalyst - Same as Purist, just a bit heavier

^ Thanks, I see that the maxi isn't advertised on the GM website, and I can't find it on the internet. People these days (or some) seem to just but the newest bat out, not taking into consideration what they are made for. I think the Hero is probably best suited to my playing style, and I liek the idea of it being a bit lighter. Has anyone ever considered having a custon made bat? They seem to be a bit cheaper, and you can have them made to suit your playing style.

Unless you either know your game so well that you know what you want, or you have state of the art equipment with lasers and radar, I wouldn't really bother with a custom made bat.

I wonder what colour they'll go for? They've already used:

RED (Purist)
YELLOW (Maxi) Can't find it on the internet anymore.
ORANGE (Hero)
GREEN (Duellist)
BLUE (Maestro) Can't find it on the internet anymore.
WHITE (Catalyst)

I bet they go for something like GM Classic, or bring back the maxi or maestro. Maybe they'll go for black. I know the colour has nothing to do with it, its just interesting to see.

ANYWAY! I think I might go for the Hero, though obviously there will be new models out next season, and its probably best to give it a feel.

I don't think they will go for white again, maybe a silver, or gold. I don't think a black one would look good anyway.
