I think the true value of Miyagi's model could be if you're coming up against a team that has you overmatched. Like if we had to play a team of Aliens that were superior athletes and cricketers to us 19 times out of 20 (like Space Jam for cricket), then you need to take a risk and do something ballsy to have a chance of winning.
Maybe picking a classical ATG team full of the best genuine batsmen and bowlers would be competitive, but never win. But picking a team like Miyagi (or that John guy who had Maxwell etc.) might mean you're more likely to lose by a lot more often, but also more likely to get really, really lucky and win if all your hit and miss players come off.
