I'll be blunt, I don't rate either player vs express pace. Lara because quite frankly he got owned by it, and Sachin because imo, he never really had a great/impactful series vs high quality pace even if he looked more comfortable.

Contrast that with someone like S Waugh who dominated WI away in '95
I consider Sachin's series in SA in 2010-11 on the same level tbh. He had fewer of those big series though.

Contrast that with someone like S Waugh who dominated WI away in '95 or Border who had an atg series in '84 (I believe) vs a pace attack from hell.

In the above I'd give Sachin the edge because he at least managed 100s vs all the great bowlers he faced even if he didn't make runs overall. Both were mediocre vs WWs, and Donald, Lara has the edge vs McWarne. Against medium pace edge Lara, Spin by razors edge Lara, pace Sachin. So overall, Sachin by the thinnest of margins.

Fwiw, all of Lara's travails vs pace is limited to outside the WI, in the WI he'd do well vs any pace bowler.
I’d actually choose Kohli over either against express pace

Id chose Kohli above either against most express pacers like Waqar, Steyn etc. Bloke has had some amazing series in SA, and did exceptionally well vs Johnson in Aus(flat pitches yes, but nearly 700 runs in 4 matches vs the same guy who gave one of the greatest bowling performances in the modern era barely a year before)

Lara had greater highs and more severe lows.

Would probably say Tendulkar though because of Lara's relative problem against pace and bounce.
