These threads are like the impending heat death of the universe. Someone should write a program on when we'll run out of international cricketers to compare with each other.

On Steyn (and Broad), that masterclass they did during the last Test was spectacular.

Seriously so sick of batsman vs bowler comparisons. Where’s our apples and oranges thread already?

Looking forward to the Andy Whittall vs Asoka de Silva vs Ian Salisbury thread.

what's with Border's RPI (42)? why is it less than Cook?
Batting down the order would mean you'd have a lot more not out knocks (16.60% for Allan Border). Which would mean more incomplete knocks; bringing the RPI down and Average up.
On the other hand, Cook was an opener, who was only not out 5.5% of the total knocks, meaning he had more complete knocks; this his RPI is higher and average is lower.
Doesn't work for everyone tho, as Border's no. of not outs is high even for a no. 5/6 batsman.

Border. Dragged Australia back up by their boot straps but by example and by creating a culture. Both played for Essex, but Steyn was ****. AB all day long and most of the weekend too.

maybe his output is just lame
It's common for batter batting lower down the order to have a lower RPI.

Average vs RPI:-
Steve Waugh------>51.06 vs 42.06
Shiv Chanderpaul------> 51.37 vs 42.38
Garfield Sobers--------> 57.78 vs 50.2

It's common for no. 5/6 batters to have an 8 point gap between Average and RPI.

Sobers is fine, having 50+, it's higher than Sachin's by 2 points even.

Chanders is exactly the example of inflated averages I think people like Border have ngl

Was talking about the 8 point gap.

2 point gap is actually low when you consider that they have 4 points gap in average.
