Starc v. Wagner

Hamish Marshall’s form from 2003 to 2005 has to be in the conversation for the GOAT purple patch by a prank player. Was bog standard in domestix, got elevated on a whim after our frontline team refused to tour Pakistan, and proceeded to make runs against every team he played against over the next 18 months.

And just emboldened Bracewell to make even more crazy calls ... he's got a lot to answer for.

Ftr I've been a Starc advocate for many years but his remodeled action is **** and I doubt he will ever achieve the heights I expected from him. If he starts the nest season in the same ****house manner, Neser should play ahead of him
I stumbled upon him at a time I had inexplicable access to English One Day cricket. Really liked his bowling back then (the season leading up to the 2015 World Cup). Wondering what gone wrong with his action?

He had to change it around 2016 or 17 to reduce the stress on his heel and back, for example by bending his front leg when it was straight before. Initially didn't lose any pace, started bowling better length but couldn't bowl the yorker as well, less swing (not that the Kookaburra of either colour has swung for years anyway). He's tinkered with it further since then like by not raising his bowling arm as high and seemingly changing his timing, it's been these later changes where he really seems to have lost it.

Wagner wants to play the next WTC cycle. Will be impressive if he does complete it.

Was thinking earlier he's broken the contract on how cricket is "supposed" to be played. Everyone knows the bouncer barrage creates highly constricted, confrontational cricket that will only last a short burst of 4-5 overs. Batsmen enter this contract only meant to last this limited time, and being unable to do so is a technical and/or mental failing. You are less of a man if you can't play the short stuff as a specialist batsman.

Wagner breaks the contract. Williamson can bowl him for an entire session in the UAE if he wants. It must be so exhausting to deal with this **** for 25-30 overs, and he's not quiet either. He's always having a verbal at you while you're taking body blows or skying it from a medium fast bowler.

There's probably a special kind of frustration and humiliation he inspires after getting you out. It's no wonder some fans find him boring or un-aesthetic - he doesn't play how you're supposed to play. Personally I find every Neil Wagner ball an event. He's great to watch. Such a theatric.

Now that he's rediscovered his swing bowling roots, he's probably going to be even more obnoxious with the new mixed field we've seen a glimpse of.

Thing is, even if Wagner does commit to the next WTC cycle, I doubt he'll play that much more test cricket. He won't play in India or Pakistan barring injury, and I suspect that unless NZ get conditions similar to those in Southampton, he won't play in England either (Boult may be past his best but he still averaged sub-20 on this tour of England).
