International Coach
First year out of school cricketers signed professionally;

Lhuan-dre Pretorius Titans
Richard Seletswane Lions
Kwena Maphaka Lions
Nqobani Mokoena Dolphins
Raeeq Daniels WP
Ntando Soni Warriors
Benni Hansen SWD

Most know about Pretorius & Maphaka.

Seletswane is a very correct middle order batsman who has shown great capabilities spending time at the crease & scoring big 100s. There are big hopes as we well know. Very compact too. I like a batsman to be in charge of his defence and he is.

Mokoena is a much improved seamer who went with SA-emerging side to Bangladesh recently. His bowling has come on leaps and bounds. Got stronger and more skillful. Just the consistency that needs work. Capable of giving it a good smash down the order. Definitely all-rounder potential.

Raeeq Daniels was the stand-out seamer in the U19 cricket season. Skiddy at good pace and can swing the ball. Got high hopes. Just think he will need that professional environment now to get stronger for longer spells.

Ntando Soni in the current SA U19 side is tall seamer who has made the move to PE from Durban. Think he will be more your first change bowler pushing you back now and again but it's his line bowling that will test your technique on and off-stump.

Benni Hansen was the SA Schools Captain 2 years running. Very accomplished middle order-batsman and wicket-keeper who I think has made a good move playing Div 2 so early as he will no doubt be a Div 1 player on time.

An XI to watch not signed up bar maybe some with HP contracts

Kashief Joseph WP
Jorich v Schalkwyk Titans
Muhammed Bulbulia Tuskers
Ross Coetzee Dolphins
Steve Stolk Titans
Divan de Villiers Titans
Chad Mason Tuskers
Cole Francis Lions
Nathan Rossouw NW
Esosa Aihevba Lions
Sandiswa Yeni Titans

Joseph is classy timer of the ball. He also tends to go big when he gets in. Started well in Club cricket in Cape Town at Rondebosch CC and was straight into the WP Colts Team.

Van Schalkwyk & Bulbulia in the current SA U19 squad are more sedate batsmen suited to the longer formats but they have enough class to be able to play 50-over too. Jorich can bowl a bit of off-spin. Bulbulia will have to keep wicket. They go big these 2. Big daddy 100s.

Ross Coetzee was the class batsman at last KMCW. Very good manipulator of the ball & whilst he is technically correct has all the modern strokes too. I don't know what it is but Durban/PMB have slowed down in batsman production from the heady days of McGlew, McLean, Goddard, Irvine , Richards, Procter, Fotheringham & Whitfield that their schools were producing and then the re-birth with Hudson, Rhodes, Benkenstein, Amla, Pietersen & Miller + others so I'm hoping he along with Romashan Pillay & Slade van Staden they start a new trend. Ross bowls handy off-spin. Also started his Dolphins Colts career well.

Everyone knows Stolk from his fabulous hitting in the U19 CWC. He is a player worth persevering with because of his dynamism. He was playing with an eye condition that he had now sorted out and is bowling good seamers with his stocky frame. The x-factor to develop in both disciplines.

Divan de Villiers is another all-rounder to watch. He played SA U19s v England earlier this year. Leaner in frame to Stolk & perhaps more rounded for the longer format for now. More reliable and steady. Already scored a 150 for Titans Colts.

Chad Mason was impressive with his leadership, leg-spin & batting for Maritzburg, Dolphins U19s & SA U19s. Started well for the Tuskers Colts too. Was at the recent CSA spin-bowling camp in Durban.

Cole Francis is a tall and strong seamer ready to hit the deck. Almost in the frame & role of his former fellow St Johns teammate CJ King who has started his professional career well with the Warriors. Some handy lower-order striking too.

Nathan Rossouw balances the spin-bowling options being a disciplined slow left-arm spinner. The boy from Klerksdorp forced his way into the SA U19s squad v England.

Esosa Aihevba given a HP contract at the Lions and he is quick but very raw. He could be anything if he develops under the guidance of Allan Donald. Follows in the line of St Stithians quicks from Rabada & Maphaka.

Yeni is the more steady work-horse seamer who can challenge both edges who has left Durban & gone to Tuks. Teammates at Kearsney with Ross Coetzee.

Some others worth watching: Pranav Raichetti (Lions), Semal Pillay (Dolphins), Ruben Maree (Knights), Lethabo Phahlamohlaka (Titans), Divan Linde (SWD), Marcus Bakker (Titans), Adam Cannata (Titans), Charl Prinsloo (Titans)

Went with the Khaya Majola Cricket Week (Old Nuffield Week) booklet that has him down as Lenasia.

Another one which is tricky is Vereeniging counting as Transvaal/Gauteng for Malan & Albie Morkel. Morne just played KM Week but also for Gauteng. Nowadays that would count as Easterns.

Same as Marais Viljoen there was Gerrie De Bruyn who represented Gauteng and you would be Easterns now.
Vereeniging and Heidelberg fall under Central Gauteng still. So does Parys and Sasolberg. See their club leagues...

Fair. Was going with Albie & Morne Morkel being immediately attached to Easterns out of school.

Watching Craven Week and seeing the strength of Western Province (WP and Boland obviously 😂) rugby schools is sensational. The 2nd team dubbed WP XV continues to klap teams at U16 week and Craven Week. You could put 8 competitive teams in I reckon.

Of course Paul Roos, Paarl Gim, Boishaai & Boland Landbou are Boland but Cape Town rugby is thriving. Not just Southern suburbs Bishops, Rondebosch, Wynberg, SACS but Stellenberg are now officially their level (& their cricket is growing too) and pushing them as they are not losing their players to Paul Roos, Paarl Gim & Boishaai as easily anymore. Not just them too but Milnerton (de Allende), Tygerberg (Etzebeth), Durbanville Hoer & Brackenfell (Kolbe) too.

Cricket group but it will be nice to chat other SA sports here too for guys interested.

I am based in Helderberg (Strand, Somerset West. Gordon's Bay). It is puzzling to me that we're producing top men's rugby players and ladies cricket players, but I don't think we've had any men's cricketers in a long time. I know from those teenagers who play for our club the situation seems complex to put it delicately.

Gino Cupido from Strand in the Current Baby Boks team is quality! Might see him in the Currie Cup when he is back as signed for WP. Size and speed of him. Just glides at centre.

I often find with this that you will see there are kids from these areas in primary school but if their talents shine through the big schools will sign them.

Loads of Somerset West kids go to Paul Roos in Stellenbosch. There were a couple at Bosch when I was there (they boarders). There is a young Grade 11 quick bowler SACS have signed this year who was going to school in Hermanus (Ronan Meintjies) who played Boland U16s last year. The top U14 talent at Bosch now is a kid called Jason Moodie and he is from Somerset West. Inside knowledge but big things are expected of him and Janko Webb (from Durbanville area) in the U15s.

You often find these top high schools get the young talented sports kids from the smaller suburbs and their local ones. I mean Kyle Verreynne (Edgemead) & David Bedingham (Table View) were Northern suburbs before going to Wynberg.

I've noticed a lot of young cricketing talent from Durbanville way are going to southern suburbs schools now and not just Paarl & Stellenbosch.

I've often thought about this. Entry into cricket is so much more tougher than rugby and football.

Less opportunities (number of teams and only 11 players), no substitutes which links to opportunity, less injuries & the fact the individuals success and or failure is highlighted even more with it being an individual sport in a team dynamic. Whereas I think a talented players is easier to protect giving initial chances in rugby and football.

It's only been made tougher to break through with only 7 FC games a season. Even with 10 you found at the end of the season more youngsters getting an opportunity if you couldn't win the competition anymore.

We are producing but just not that super star in a little while.

Who are the youngest batsman to score 100s in domestic cricket currently & which under-age system did they come through?

Matt De Villiers 25
Mihlali Mpongwana 25
Tristan Stubbs 25
Jono Bird 24
Bryce Parsons 24
Luke Beaufort 24 (Div 2 only)
Jordan Hermann 24
Daniel Smith 23
Dewald Brevis 22
Slade van Staden 22
JP King 22
George van Heerden 22 (Div 2 only)
Ronan Herrmann 22 (Div 2 only)
Andile Simelane 22 (Div 2 only)
Meeka-eel Prince 21
Lhuan-dre Pretorius 19

WP 5
Gauteng 3 (1 Div 2 only)
Northerns 3 (Pretorius could easily be Gau)
Warriors 3 (2 Div 2 only)
Dolphins 2 (1 Div 2 only)

Things have slowed down for EP & Border cricket but not as bad as Free State. Feels like things should be getting better around the country but it feels like talent avenues are diminishing & concentrated to the big 4.

No real cricket news going around whilst still waiting for the Warriors and Boland to drop their contracted squads.

Baby Boks thumped Scotland yesterday to go 3 from 3.

Day 4 of Craven Week done
Effective SFs
WP thumping Sharks
SWD thumped Lions yesterday

So it's a WP v SWD final on Saturday!!

Great for the Southern Cape. But they obviously get signed by the big boys.

Argentina will probably turn them over now I’m posting this, and I haven’t seen the French or the Baby Blacks, but the Baby Boks look really special considering performances earlier in the year. Playing at a sevens pace and they seemingly have Olympic level sprinters everywhere at the back and on the bench. Pead the standout player and Jooste is box office. Ridiculous pace.

Considering where they were a couple of months back it's unbelievable where they are now. Coach Kevin Foote looked at 84 players building up to this.

Pead is going right to the top. I've loved the Scottish commentator. Described Jooste as rubber man.

CSA U19 Invitational XI playing Bangladesh U19s in a warm-up game.

These were the players who missed out on SA U19 selection.

Seamer AR Paul Matlala (18) of Elderado Park/Easterns, spinner Nathan Rossouw (19) formerly for Klerksdorp and probably with NWU cricket now as well as Bafana Mthunzi (U17) of Queens in Joburg have come in for Hockly, Pillay and Short.

Bangladesh U19s currently 164/4 after 29 overs.

Josh van Biljon & Jaden Govender were the only performers at the camp with the bat that didn't make the SA U19s & both top scored here. They were 71/1 and bowled out for 116 thanks to Shadhin Islam.
