Great news for 9, he's a really good commentator.

Hope he still finishes his contract with Sky NZ for this summer though.

I hope 9 get Boycs in as their token Pom for The Ashes: him & Slater were the double act of last summer.
Why?? They already have Nicholas permanently employed.

I reckon they'll bring out Michael Holding, because they already got the pom.

This is how I see the future Channel Nine team:

Slater - Just signed up and has limitless potential.

Healy - I think he'll be the future presenter. Should take over the Cricket Show also- he'd have real fun with it.

Taylor - Needs some voice training, but a solid performer and looks there to stay.

Warne - Granted, he got dumped, but after everything dies down, his friendship with James Packer, and his legendary status in the game, should ensure he gets a gig. He was quite good in the Commentary Box in 2003/04 .

Gilchrist - The most polished media performer in the Australian team. He'd be all class.

SWaugh - Said he wanted to spend time away from the game and then return to it later on. Frowned on Healy and Taylor's decision to head straight to the commentary box. The best record of any Australian captain, and an ability to express himself, should ensure that he gets a gig.

^I would hate to see that as a commentary team....I think it's unfortunate that most commentators these days are just former cricketers rather than proper journalists. Much of the time commentators don't even know the rules properly...a lot of them don't even use proper grammar and sound so uneducated. At least that's one area where Mark Nicholas is OK.

It is unfortunate, but not that likely to change, certainly if current television commentary teams around the cricket world are any indication. I agree that 'journalists' are often good fare though. For instance, it's great listening to guys like Tim Lane and Jim Maxwell, and Robert Craddock when he appears on Foxtel's Inside Cricket.

I'd probably see Steve Waugh in the ABC commentry team. He's too articulate and reserved for Channel 9. (a polar opposite to Tony Greig)

Ah Mickey Slater makes me laugh. When Warney bolwed that beauty at edgbaston when it viciously turned back, He let out an emphatic cry of "BOWLED HIM!!!" Anyone who heard that on C4 Will know whta I mean, just so funny

Slater is good but Healy is starting to **** me. He over reacts with almost every shot these days like its going for six.

I just want to know where the hell are Deano and Greg mathews. They were incredibly entertaining throughout the Ashes and never shy away from the truth.

Deano's commentating for the India vs. Pakistan test series.

He was frickin' hilarious when a ball boy hurt his knee and started to cry. He just kept yelling "Oh get up!". It looked like a fairly serious fall too.
