Even in the 52-53 series, India only really had Gupte. As good as he was, he was bowling away from home and avged 30 that series.
As I said the next highest was Mankad with 15 @53 and no one else with 10+. Overall I'd stick pick the English attack at home anyday.
Panesar was poor overall but around 2007 was actually good on some tracks that assisted spin, which he had in that series iirc. The WI line up wasn't great but still had Chanders, Gayle, Sarwan etc who are all pretty good. And Sidebottom/Panesar both tore it up.
Gupte and Mankad are better than any bowler in that English lineup as far as I am concerned, so I would take those two, Mankad did average 50+ but that also goes to show the level of batting they had, I mean, they had arguably three ATG quality bats with two 40+ avg openers, obviously that's much harder to bowl to. Harmison averaged 34. Also, Sarwan wasn't there, so two quality bats in Gayle and Shiv and nothing.

Ahh Sarwan only played the first game, my bad.
Overall they're better probably, Gupte certainly, but considering they're away from home in WI whilst the English are at home, I'd take the English.

Ok but whatever gap is marginal, and that English attack is nowhere near the worst Shiv plundered, the SA home attack was also pretty bad as I mentioned.

He plundered England in 2004 against an Ashes winning quality attack of Harmison, Hoggard and Freddie

you attack the first 4 balls and rotate strike at the last two, at that point to maximise output smh, batting 101
He couldn't bat with the tail, he was greedy for his avg, doesn't mean that his innings of close to a ton was worthless.
Jadeja is basically the same, he's still a quality ATVG All rounder none the less. Waugh did it too, still an ATVG bat.

Waugh was pretty decent with the tail, the problem with Chanders is clear, he didn't come up when the team needed him and he wasn't good with the tail like a Stokes

Waugh was better with the tail but didn't come up either when the team needed. That was my point.
Either way, don't think there's more to argue on this topic.
