my opinions ftr on individual players….

Hayden/Sehwag and Waugh/Laxman are washes. No issue with anyone rating either over the other, imo there aren’t significant gaps at all.

Waugh I have ahead of Dravid (again I wouldn’t begrudge someone disagreeing though), but Tendulkar is well ahead of Ponting, like even if all the other gaps favoured Australia I don’t think one can reasonably argue those 3 gaps combined are as big.

I'm like the biggest laxman fan here after OS but this idea that junior and him are some tiers apart is frankly ridiculous. Serious underrating of junior. Typical of this forum to underrate 80s 90s player whose average is affected by era. Junior was more well rounded batsman I will pick him.

Anyway regarding original question, I will take indian quartet easily because tendulkar is at least minimum 2 tiers above Ponting if not more.

I don’t think it’s tiers apart but they have reasonably similar records but Laxman has more iconic / match winning knocks whereas junior was the king of the beautiful but pointless inning

I've got Dravid ahead of S Waugh but marginally behind Ponting. But there were more than enough areas of the game where Dravid was better to make it a dead heat overall.

I don't think there's tiers between them but Laxman was definitely better imo. He averaged almost 50 over a decade and a half once he wasn't forced to open the batting.

No, Waugh played plenty of extremely vital innings too. Not as many or as frequently as VVS but he did.

This is absolute nonsense and symptomatic of general ignorance on Waugh.

Check his 115 and 116 against SA, 139 and 126 against WI, 153 against India. All quality knocks.

The only reason I have Ponting over Dravid is the dominance he had at his best, but that could also be equalized by Dravid's ability to play long, take the shine off the ball, build partnerships and make life easier for India's middle order.
Since complete records are available for every batter (1991), Dravid has the highest BPD (balls per dismissal) of any batter at 123 bpd (I checked for min 2k runs)

We have stats available only from 2002 onwards but there's about a 10 point difference in their avg vs spin, which further increases to about 30 in Asia (a 17 point gap even excluding India)
