Warwickshire Vs Canterbury
Canterbury remained at the top of the division three four day table, but only by the width of a pubic hair after escaping defeat at the hands of Warwickshire as their last pair hung on for 5.2 overs to save the game for their team. Warwickshire deserved more as their team had dominated the entire four days of play.
Day 1 saw a great start by the Warwickshire batsmen. Last season poor 1st innings batting had failed them dearly. This season it appears they've got the right mind set on board. Ramesh (50) and stand in keeper Holloway (33) showed the way and layed a platform for the rest of the team to follow. Follow they did as Howarth (39), Sriram (65) and Bell (50) all made significant contrubtions. However no batsmen went on for that big score that could've pushed things past 400. The innings ended at 338.
Canterbury made a solid beginning, reaching 122/1 before Kevin Dean (5/61) tore the Canterbury top order part with a majestic spell of fast bowling. Canterbury lost their last 5 wickets for 22 as they finished up 208 all out.
Warwickshire now looking to build on their 130 run advantage and did so in superb fashion. Howarth (56), Sriram (51) and Rowell (59) were backed up by Hemp (44) and Bell (32). Warwickshire made 345/7 declared. A great batting effort, but they didn't score fast enough and perhaps declared a bit later than they should have.
None the less, they set about winning the game on the final morning of the match. Canterbury reached 71/0 and then 184/3. The game looked out of Warwickshires reach. However in a dramatic final session. Canterbury crashed to 238/9. Dean and Gregson tried every trick in the book, but couldn't make the batsmen crack. Te\he game finished in a draw.
*A frustrating game, but we'll take the points."
Next week we host our teams former manager as Surrey come to town. How exciting! I just splooged twice and oh, there I go again.

[Auckland] - Auckland continued its impressive season start by remaining perfect in the 4D competition through two games. It was another fine effort as this time, it was a come-from-behind win.
Due a sufficiently slog-worthy innings from Carlton Baugh (95), who took 55 balls to get off the mark, which rescued his team from 69/6, Guyana scored 259 in its first knock. Tudor (3/50) and Liyanage (3/31) were the main wicket-takers, with young Plummer (2/38) bowling aggressively and effectively.
Due clearly to over-confidence and with a series of poor strokes, Auckland was dismissed for just 229 if which Godwin (62) and Montgomerie (49) scored the bulk. Adopted Guyanese pacer, Franklyn Rose took 4/44.
With a 30-run lead and much confidence, Guyana proceeded to thoroughly push the advantage home... to Auckland however. 0, 16, 19, 11, 25, 11, 0, 0, 6, 2*, 0, as Mr. Rose was last out for a duck - 93 all out. Alex Tudor (3/7) was once again superb and Liyanage (3/20) and Plummer (2/46) were none too shabby themselves.
The target just 124, Auckland ensured that Guyana would not be too badly beaten by gift-wrapping two wickets before Smith (60 not out) and Rowland (10 not out) put together the winning partnership. The end result - Auckland won by 8 wickets with Alex Tudor winning the Man of the Match award.

Colts vs WP
"What progress have we made as a team"
a shocking 2nd innings collapse has cause the colts manager to write a "private" letter to his players insisting his emmense dissapointment at their continual 4d performance. he worte "I am so disappointed with the soulless, immature performance [at WP]. I love each and every one of you but like my own family, you thrill, you frustrate, you anger. I question, what progress have we made as a team, as individuals."
He went on to question his players priorities "In the lead-up to this game and up till tonight, the issues that have dominated conversations, priorities and by definition, your attention/focus/clarity-deal-making; sponsors; helmets; what the media is saying about you."
he than called upon his players to work their hardest and to play with courage, onvistion and toughness of character.
The match started well for us, Sharath looking the best he has in a long time making 153, Guneratne and Anderson also looked solid on their way to 37 and 45 respectivley, but we lacked another batsman to step up and go on with their innings. Mathie and McGrath both bowled exceptionally for 4/65 and 3/65 respectivley. former colt Shewag also chiming in with 2 wickets.
WP batted solidly for 1 ball more than us but made alot more runs, almost the whole team contributed, Fuston, Rickman and Samaraweera were the pci of the bats, Lee picked up 4 wickets and Daly the 2 key wickets of Funston and Rickman.
Our 2nd innings was the 2nd worst i have ever seen, bringing back memories of last years corresponding fixture against WP, Anderson was the only batsman to break 20 making 36 but again failing to go on with it. Samaraweera was the pick of the bowlers with 4-30.
WP had little trouble getting the neccessary runs finishing 2 down for 56 with Lee and Beasley each picking up a wicket.

Somerset On A High....
Yep Somerset are on a high lately and its not just our players close connections to Liam....
After breaking through last week, we stole victory for Victoria, begging the question, can we win division 4 4D? The answer, not likely, but our hopes are now of avoiding relegation, this being given a boost by our victory over the Vics.

Province Hoodoo continues for Colts
It has been reported that Provinces' manager Slats4ever is sending his players Christmas Cards this year as opposed to angry letters. It comes as a result of another resounding win over arch rivals Colts last weekend.
Wintery skies met the players at Newlands as Thilan Samaraweera won the toss for the locals and sent Colts in. Under pressure after their first round loss, Colts batted impressively early on. Sridaharan Sharath led the way scoring a steady 153 but proving that against this quality bowling and in these conditions patience was required. However as Colts looked like they were getting on top at 2-187 the bowling came back in the last session to turn the game. The experience of Glenn McGrath and raw pace of Bishop Matthie put Province back on top as they took 3-65 and 4-65 respectively. A score of 353 meant that Province were going to have to bat well to put themeselves in with a chance.
The innings started off disastrously with Richardson being dismissed in the second over for 4. Former Colts star Virender Sehwag along with Rabbi Llewellyn both looked dangerous before getting out in the 30's. However Rickman and Funston then set about reasserting Province as both made healthy scores of 66 and 84 however some great bowling by Daly was enough to make sure both batsman didn't run away with it. The lower half of the batting order however impressed tremendously with all bottom 4 batsman scoring at least 20 runs including a fantastic 21 not out by Glenn McGrath
. However it required a batsman down the other end and captain Samaraweera was enough to provide this as he scored a determined 87. As a result Province led by 96 runs going into the second innings.
Colts second dig was like season 3 revisited. on that occasion they were dismissed for 40 and it was almost as if this fear was riding in their brains when they went out to bat. The top order offered no resistance as all three quicks picked up a wicket each. Captain Samaraweera then destroyed Colts's middle order leaving them all out for 148 with Anderson the only man to do any damage with 36, with Samaraweera ending with 4-30.
Province had no trouble knocking off the 56 required for victory and did so with 8 wickets in the tank.
The win leaves Province on the top of the table after 2 rounds, well clear of any rivals. The win against Colts, probably the strongest side in the division, is also another sign which shows Province mean business this year. The manager however is cautious of complacency stepping in.

The start to the year has been great, but we can't fall into the trap of complacency as it's still only early days"
