Province Psychological Advantage Continues.
This was the biggest game so far in the division 4 title, a win would see competition favourites Province secure the title, or Colts could close the gap and give themeselves a realistic chance of edging the South African heavyweights out've the title race. Colts however had a huge psychological hurdel in that they had never toppled rival Province in a 4 day encounter before.
Colts began poorly with the two spearheads Nelson and Matthie each picking up an early wicket. However with the arrival of Anderson the cheers came up from the home crowd as their favourite son walked into the cauldron. A perfectly set plan by Samaraweera lured him into a false stroke however when he was on 12 and he was caught in the deep off Quinn for just 12, advantage Province. Despite some solid knocks from the middle order it was only Guneratne who was able to penetrate a highly skilled Province attack scoring 71. Ishmael Nelson continued his return to form as he dropped balls once again on a length and got a huge amount of movement to return with a five wicket haul.
208 never looked enough against a hungry Province batting line up keen to secure the title. There were no real stars in the innings just everyone doing their bit, like they have been most of the year. Of special note was a return to form of Virender Shewag who batted welll against his old club to score 50, Rickman also looked good scoring 84, to show some of last years form. Shaw was the only Colts bowler who showed ny hunger snaring 4 important wickets however 347 looked a little to much for a tired looking Colts side.
It was now or never for Colts, however the might of Province simply cleaned them up. Bishop Matthie showed his class as one of the best bowlers in the competition moving through the Colts line up in brilliant fashion taking 4-22 stealing the lime light from fellow star Nelson. Colts only managed 179 and how were they going to cope with just 42 runs to play with and their season really on the line.
They finally performed admirably and took 3 wickets off Province before Province made it over the line with 7 wickets in hand and all but wrapped up Division 4.
Slats4ever "An important win, we haven't secured the title yet but this win certainly sent us one step closer, and it was important. Colts still look like they're under a blanket where they think they can't beat us, and to our credit we were all hungry which is something I'm very happy about. 1 more win and I think then we'll open the champers"
