Rishabh Pant Appreciation Society

Despite batting in the 4th innings only 5 times in his career so far and having played a total of 16 tests, Pant has the three highest 4th innings scores by an Indian wicketkeeper in the history of Indian cricket (and that includes Dhoni's entire career).

Out of those 5 innings played, he also has 3 of the top 12 scores by a designated keeper in the 4th innings in the history of test cricket. In the last ten year period, all 3 top scores in the position belong to him:

Out of batsmen with at least 300 runs in the 4th innings, Rishabh Pant has the second highest average in the history of test cricket and averages more than Bradman. The other batsmen in the top 5 retired at least 50 years ago and the only 'recent' batsman in the top 10 retired nearly 30 years ago.

Within the 21st century, Pant dominates by an absolutely comical margin:

Pant is now the highest ranked Indian Test wicketkeeper batsman in history currently being ranked 13th in the batting rankings. The next best was Farokh Engineer with a career high 17th ranking followed by MS Dhoni with 19th.

half you posters hated this guy before the series
Agreed. But consider also that this forum mostly has the malcontents and contrarians who'd get laughed out of the door on the truly representative Indian forum. And on that forum, Pant has enjoyed consistent support since his test debut.

Lmao. Are you talking about the forum where 'Kohli is failing his nation by going home for the birth of his first child'/'Kohli has no shame to not resign after this' is a popular take?

EDIT: Also most of that forum wanted Rahane dropped ages ago.

I mean he may be correct that that forum is truly representative of the Indian fan base.

Nah, no one afaik hated him. Saha's better keeping and decent batting was thought to be slightly superior but when it was discovered to have deteriorated, no one here questioned Pant's inclusion in the second test
Yeah given Pant was in excellent form in the DN practise match, and that he actually kept wickets in that one, I thought it would be Pant who would play Adelaide test.
