Well since its 80’s Windies and 00’s Aus I’ll check them. tbf and to keep it a similar time period I’ll go with when Garner/Holding retired and when Warne/McGrath retired.

Windies

31-5-25

Percentage wise
50.82-8.20-40.98

6.2 w/l rate

Australia

64-10-11

Percentage wise
75.29-11.76-12.94

6.4 w/l rate

(if you include the rest of the 80’s their win % goes up a couple points and so does their loss %)
Yeah I would just have Aus 99 to 2007 and WI 79 to 85/86. They were different teams when McWarne and Holding Garner retired.

So yeah very small difference in amount of losses, but very big difference in amount of wins and draws.

I think I've said this before (I've said most things before) but Australia had a run from October 1999 to January 2008 where they played 95 Tests and won 74 of them. That's ****ing ludicrous.

As a rugby fan I look back at Richie McCaw - played 148, won 131, lost 15, drew 2. Crazy stats. Sadly the ABs are pretty average now.

The Aussies of the 2000s had a similar aura to McCaw's side.

iirc the loss rates of the two teams were quite similar but Australia won a lot more matches.
Two things consider though, the late 70s/80s WI played several games as I've said time and time again that were weather affected and had time been added to time lost, WI would've won a few more games. Examples are the first two matches of the 84 series at home vs Australia, 2nd test 87 series in India etc. 2nd thing to consider is that 20 or so series WI played in the 80s, they played 7 at home and the others away. They played almost twice as much on the road as at home.

And the rate of game play was just slower anyways.

I mean, I’m sure Australia had some tests affected by weather too

Yeah but their times were made up by starting early, extending days etc. None of that happened in the 80s. Nevertheless, Australia's win rates was insane so gotta give them credit for that. I'm one who thinks they'd beat WI at home but I give them zero chances in the Caribbean.

I think they may have better chances in WI than at home to be frank.
