Guy was the most freakishly talented batter I’ve seen. Not a proper test cricket example, but in an IPL game vs peak Steyn, he smashed a 140+ kph Yorker on leg stump, that cramped him for room, deep into the crowd. Reminded me of a shot Viv played in his 189.

iirc subs (although it might have been another user?) classed ATG as a player they would consider for an ATG Test XI. Vastly limits the number of players.

There are around 10-11 pacers, 3-4 spinners, 15-17 bats and 2-3 WK who I count as ATGs.

There are around 10-11 pacers, 3-4 spinners, 15-17 bats and 2-3 WK who I count as ATGs.

I'm a bit more open minded than this but still only have a toital of 50-60 ATG's. I definitely have a few all-rounders who I wouldn't necessarily have as ATG on primary discipline though.

Only for certain fans. Otherwise he is solidly ATVG as a test cricketer.

His batting has diminished in recent years to almost below Hadlee level which shouldn't change his overall rating, while Jadeja has gotten better as a bat.

Does it not follow? Ashwin has an incredible record overall, but you've decided for some reason he's ATVG. By that logic ABdV is barely a footnote in SA batting and thus barely ATVG.

No it doesn't. But I do admit I also downgrade somewhat ABD for the downhill skiier effect.
