You must be the new guy.I feel like G Smith is getting a bit overrated in this forum lately, just my opinion.
where do you rate him? below Cook?at a time?? he's still overrated as hell
same level but a little bit higher than Cook and Haydenwhere do you rate him? below Cook?
For me personally, I rate Smith/Greenidge/Hayden/Sehwag at a similar level. All have their positives and negatives, and my ordering of them is far from set. All for sure behind Boycs and all for sure ahead of Cooksame level but a little bit higher than Cook and Hayden
Why do you have Sehwag "for sure" over Cook? For me personally, I rate Smith/Greenidge/Hayden/Sehwag at a similar level. All have their positives and negatives, and my ordering of them is far from set. All for sure behind Boycs and all for sure ahead of Cook
He still is. But back a year or so, he was legitimately making Top 30s.at a time?? he's still overrated as hell
Now, he is not rated way higher that your or Johan's ratings. He still is. But back a year or so, he was legitimately making Top 30s.
I don't have him in Top 50Now, he is not rated way higher that your or Johan's ratings.
Close.I don't have him in Top 50
in swingy conditions where batting gets easier as match progresses, slower and steadier batting is more productive than attacking. Gordon against extra bounce and reverse is a bigger issue than Geoffrey's batting ideology. Not sure I will would place Boycott before or active Hayden. I am tempted to say after Hayden because Boycott having a SR in the 30s is kinda ridiculous. Having said that, Boycott is simply better at surviving the new ball against great attacks.
Boycott didn’t have good record? Here is my order
Greenidge: Overall very dominant in a tough bowling era.
Boycott: Don't like him at all but he didn't have a good record
Hayden: I have recently moved him ahead in my rankings based on his sheer peer rating consensus as the best opener of the 2000s and so many players talking about his bully effect.
G. Smith: Very close to Hayden but I would argue his only real big advantage over Hayden is England. But it's not enough for me to overcome Hayden's sheer peer consensus.
Sehwag: Too weak in swinging conditions

If he did he’d be above Greenidge who clearly has a good record.Boycott didn’t have good record?
Sorry I meant he did. Typo.Boycott didn’t have good record?
Well as opener his job is primarily to survive the new ball so I can't fault him too much for SR even if he is unusually bad.in swingy conditions where batting gets easier as match progresses, slower and steadier batting is more productive than attacking.
Boycott averages 40 even after attaining the age of 40.If he did he’d be above Greenidge who clearly has a good record.
He played in an era when the greatest batsman of England were their openers : Boycott, Edrich and Amiss..rest were at best mediocre. So surviving never acts as a limitation.Well as opener his job is primarily to survive the new ball so I can't fault him too much for SR even if he is unusually bad.
Why is that surprising. Him seeing off 10 overs of new ball in swinging conditions can mean the difference between a score of 150 to 300.
