I don't think he was saying Sachin is overrated, moreso that the gap between Sachin and Viv is overrated because people value longevity over performance against the best and peak.
Dude. This is what he posted sometime ago when you said Sachin is overrated on CW.

Yes.

It's mirroring the outside world where he's soon going to be seen as greater than Bradman.

In that post earlier in the thread, I don't think he was saying that, if you're gonna find other instances of him saying Sachin is overrated then you're welcome to.
Um it's clearly his subtext, more annoyed by Sachin getting overrated than Viv downrated. Hence putting longevity in quotes as if it's debatable.

It definitely read more like being annoyed Sachin's advantages are more focused on (hence quotations on Sachin's advantage) in comparison to Viv's advantages, hence the gap being overrated.

Another way of him saying Sachin is overrated.

I also feel Viv doesn't get his due. I am probably his biggest supporter on CW. But I don't need to downgrade Sachin for that and longevity is a clear demarker. It's very close between them.

Eh I don't take it that way.

Oh, Nice, we have similar beliefs then, I just have Hobbs locked at 2 pretty firmly and then Tendulkar/Hutton/Viv/Sobers as practical equals all excelling in their own fields. Smith I withhold judgement on, until he retires ofc.

I have no issues with Hobbs no. 2, he had the biggest gap to his peers of the lot.

I can't get behind Hutton quite that high, and yes it small increments, and in the vicinity, but can't place him above Smith and Lara, but that's just me, they're in the same tier

At this level the differences by player are miniscule. At the end of the day though, Sachin played like 160 tests averaging high 50s without weakness anywhere. That’s an insane stat. I also think the longevity is just cool from a historical standpoint - he played with Viv and Imran and with Kohli and Smith. That’s bridging four generations of cricketers. ATG greats like Warne, Ponting, Dravid and Lara all came after him and went before him. I’m biased but I also think the 1990s were the golden age of cricket given the reemergence of SA, the rise of SL, and the relative balance amongst teams and great pacers.
