Greg's feats against pace in WSC is unreal and puts him above these two for me.

174 vs Andy Roberts, Imran Khan and Wayne Daniels in Perth, from 73-4, other highest scorer made 62.

246* vs Andy Roberts, Imran Khan, Wayne Daniels and Joel Garner in Melbourne.

150 vs Andy Roberts, Michael Holding, Colin Croft at Trindiad, from 0-2, next highest scorer made 45, next highest after that 21, Rest of the nine batsmen combined made 116 runs.

113 vs Andy Roberts, Michael Holding, Colin Croft and Joel Garner at Bourda, coming at 25-2, next highest scrorer made 51.

104 and 85 vs Andy Roberts, Michael Holding, Colin Croft at Antigua, coming at 65-2 and 32-2 respectively, next highest scorer in first inning made 40.

Other noteworthy G Chappell performances

  • 2nd Test 1972 England (Bob Massie took 16 wickets). In very tough conditions, Greg was the only player on either side to score a century. Bowlers included Willis and Snow. No English batsmen scored a century that series, while Greg made 2.
  • WSC NZ match, both Lillee and Hadlee took a lot of wickets. Greg made 2 half centuries (one not out), no other batsmen made a half century.
  • In 1975/76 3 centuries against Roberts/Holding. This was Holding's first series, so possibly not the finished product; the potential was obvious. Roberts, Gibbs and Holder had all averaged < 20 in India a year earlier

So you take back the derogatory comments on WSC in the Viv thread thread I assume?

I often point out county stats and Rebel tour stats, so Yeah WSC can fall under the same category
So you recant your earlier opinion below?

with WSC Viv easily beats Lillee but it was seen as the IPL of the time and a circus by many really so it deserves to be as devalued and ignored as possible, in regards to all of the participants.

Think Greg Chappell has quietly been seriously underrated around here. Probably the 3rd bests batsman of the 70's.
