reading his cricinfo profile it sounds like he was in and out of the FC side a lot. Got picked when the first-teamers were on national duty, then dropped when they returned. Literally got dropped the game after his 181* because the test players had all returned to the side. He did have a 1000 run season once upon a time, and apparently was a good looking and technically sound player.
