Just ruminating on this a bit, do other national leaders appear at these sort of events? Did the British Prime Minister make a speech at the opening of the London Olympics? Vladimir Putin at the Sochi Games? Tony Abbott at the Australian opening of the CWC? I honestly can't remember - does our PM go out of his way to get shown on these occasions?

What ****ing Prime Minister has time for an appearance on the Tonight ****ing Show? And it was national news that Obama shook his hand. We giggle like little girls when anyone famous knows who Lorde is, or get bitchy when someone doesn't like her. Eleanor Catton is not allowed to say anything bad about the little country that could, because anyone who's famous is meant to act like a walking ****ing advertisement.

It's so ****ing embarrassing.
