*Official* Zimbabwe in England (One Off Test)

Carse should surely be in the Eng squad the way he's performing rn, shouldn't he?
He's only just come back from the toe injury he sustained in the white ball series in India that ruled him out the Champions Trophy and IPL.

He took 2 absolutely beauties in Notts 4th innings to dismiss two of their top 3.

Allows England to get Tongue back into the fold instead and debut Cook.

Nice to see him playing, but I'm a bit peeved he's only got the chance now he's not quite in top form.

I'm sure sticking with Burns or Sibley instead of Crawley would have been better. It's funny still hearing England backing him (and I guess it's nice from them). He's played 97 innings and averages 30.5!
Maybe England's plan is to drop him when Bethell is available ? And have Stokes to open with Duckett (everyone's wish!). Bethell could come back at #3 and Pope lower the order.

Oh and Haseeb Hameed is knocking on the door again also. Just hit a 206* against Durham and is the current top run scorer in Div1 with 695 runs in 11 innings. Would also be great to see him bat alongside Duckett!

Big Mac wants england to shoot for the stars and also be humble at the same time. Unconvinced ATM they will achieve either.
Very tetchy they are when anyone mentions their preference for golf rather than training practice.

Burns averaged the same and Sibley and Hameed even less. Crawley isn't the answer but I'm unsure the other three are.

I believe South Africa had (maybe still has?) a 3-day FC comp, and that’s fine as long as the playing field is level across all comps, a mixture is weird. This is the cricketing equivalent of a pre-tournament friendly in the grand scheme of things, but a football team wouldn’t turn around and say that teams like, let’s say Montenegro or Latvia aren’t worthy of a 90 minute match, why deny Zimbabwe the same?
Maybe very long ago but we haven't had a 3 day FC competition since I followed SA cricket. Been 4 days with the final getting 5 days for a while.

Weird inaccuracy in Cricinfo's preview piece, suggesting Brendan Taylor is eligible to play.

AFAIK he won't be eligible until July.

The explosion in cricket media articles about Zimbabwe over the last fortnight has been interesting to observe.

Hasn't he retired anyway? He hasn't played a competitive game since 2021 it would seem pretty odd to throw him back in for a game like this.

He's said he's willing to come back if asked when his ban ends. He's gone to rehab and got clean over the last couple of years, but he's not eligible to play yet.
