Quite surprised by Chetty to be honest. Thought be averaged less than that. I am an Ackerman fan. I like the energy he has at the crease.

Also slightly surprised. Maybe low 30s as he has had 1 or 2 decent seasons mixed in. Honestly not sure how the Dolphins are going to juggle things. Andile comes back for Makhanya or Mosehle at the very least.

Problem is, you don't want Roelofsen keeping and opening for Mosehle to be dropped.

In a short space of time our red-ball bowling pyramid would have lost Steyn, Philander, Morkel, Abbott, Olivier, Kleinveldt, Morris, Parnell, Viljoen and de Lange.

With Rabada and Ngidi fast-tracked these are the top 10 franchise seamer wicket-takers left in our system.

Games - (wickets) - average - (5 wicket hauls)

1. Andrew Birch 69 (214) 27.54 (8)
2, Malusi Siboto 70 (203) 28.00 (6)
3. Dane Paterson 56 (194) 27.59 (7)
4. Beuran Hendricks 46 (160) 24.71 (8)
5. Dwaine Pretorius 36 (109) 24.07 (5)
6. Sisanda Magala 41 (94) 39.91 (1)
7. Anrich Nortje 20 (76) 26.03 (4)
8. Lizaad Williams 24 (66) 35.69 (1)
9. Corne Dry 23 (63) 30.68 (2)
10. Daryn Dupavillon 20 (62) 30.46 (3)

I don't think too many of the next crop of bowlers are going to come from that list. If you haven't made it into the test side then by the time you've been around long enough to rack up a sufficient number of wickets to be one of the top 10 then it's probably too late for you.

Sipamla, Burger, and Jansen have all played for the A side, so those are the ones they've had their eye on, and I would imagine Gerald Coetzee is in the mix too. Dupavillon has support on CW, but might need to prove that he's over his injuries. And Eathan Bosch would be another to consider, although I'm not so sure about Corbin.

There are maybe some others I haven't thought of, but those to my mind would be the most likely candidates once they finally decide to look past Hendricks and Paterson.

It was just more of a fun exercise & showing how much experience has left the system but in saying that Burger averages mid 30s in his start to franchise cricket and Sipamla is yet to get a franchise 5-for proving he can win games for his franchise. So it does highlight how much development they still need to do.

Agree with the too watch list. Burger, Sipamla & then Knights duo Coetzee and Jansen along with Dolphins duo Dupavillon and E.Bosch but injures have plagued those last 4 early in their careers which is the concern.

Dupavillon consistent injuries is very disappointing, always rated him. I like Burger a lot and hope he does well. But it is Coetzee and Jansen that are the big players in 2 years time.

In looking the stats of the players I mentioned, I discovered something I didn't know, which is that Jansen has a twin brother, Duan who is also a left-arm fast bowler and may bat a bit too. He's only played a handful of matches, and none at franchise level, but his stats look decent enough so far. Marco has made more progress so far, but it's probably worth keeping an eye on Duan as well.

Twin brother.... they got a chance to bowl at Kohli a few years ago when they where 15/16 during a net session.

No great pace. Remember watching them at Coke Week. It is also the thing I am looking forward to most for Marco that he ups his speeds a little. But I think Knights got Marco on condition his brother Duan got a Free State contract.

Each time he has to come back it will be more and more difficult too.

Beuran Hendricks was similar and he lost that bite he had when he was younger after a serious injury.

Marco made me think of a left-arm Morkel.... think if he beefs up could be a great find. I have not seen enough of Duan to really make any comment.

This is going wildly off-topic now, but the Jansens appear to be fraternal twins who bowl left, bat right. Albie and Morne Morkel bowled right and batted left, as did their father. So is there some sort of genetic factor at play there? I don't suppose this is something anybody's even taken a look at.

If you want the research done get a kickstarter going to fund a good geneticist...

Highlights from SA U19 game yesterday. Lees, Moletsane, Brett and Modikoane all made debuts yesterday. So too harsh to judge but I do like the look of Lees (limited overs middle-order type player with very handy spin) and Brett (looks a good young quick bowler).

BATTING (matches, runs, average, SR)

1. Jonathan Bird (9) 565 @ 70.62 (92.92)
2. Bryce Parsons (8) 232 @ 33.14 (91.69)
3. Ruan Terblanche (8) 257 @ 32.12 (67.27)
4. Luke Beaufort (8) 255 @ 31.87 (62.19)
5. Andrew Louw (7) 167 @ 23.85 (68.72)
6. Khanya Cotani (8) 113 @ 16.14 (66.08)
7. Levert Manje (3) 37 @ 12.33 (64.91)
8. Tiaan van Vuuren (4) 22 @ 5.50 (70.96)

BOWLING (matches , wickets, average, economy)

1. Gerald Coetzee 17 (23) 28.21 (4.31)
2. Achille Cloete 8 (9) 38.55 (5.73)
3. Tiaan van Vuuren 4 (3) 44.66 (5.82)
4. Lifa Ntanzi 8 (7) 46.85 (6.26)

1. Bryce Parsons 8 (9) 32.66 (4.52)

I think there has been some good new picks as I said above but we need to get some of our better players back (Parsons and Coetzee) and make sure they peaking along with Bird. Think Beaufort and Cloete have shown they capable of more than they have shown for SA U19 and Beaufort is definitely on an upward curve. It has been clear that this team has been reliant on a few players with the bat but they bowling has been even worse without Coetzee and Parsons in getting wickets and keeping the run rate down. Lees got through 10 overs for 30 yesterday v India with his spin, Moletsane went for 40 in 10 so it just needs the striking balance. Merrick Brett was swinging the ball back into the left-hander at decent speeds bowled 6 overs for 24.

I think we need to base our SA U19 side around this.

1.
2.
3. Bird
4. Beaufort
5. Parsons
6. Lees
7.
8. Coetzee
9. Brett
10. Cloete
11.

1. Terblanche should have made the squad but they likely to go Louw and Manje to open or let Bird open.
2. Cotani is vice-captain so he will bat 7 and keep but his run scoring and SR needs massive improvement.
3. They could go for front line spinner (sla) Modikoane but I suspect they will try lengthen the batting and play Moletsane. It will mean the spinners will be Parsons (sla), Lees (ros), Moletsane (ros) & Bird (left-arm chinamen)
