Lions did well to get up off the last ball of the game last night. Lions and Cobras both bouncing back after first round losses yesterday.

Pieter Malan with 80 & George Linde with a 6-for with his slow left-armers. Jonker continued his good limited overs form smashing 60 in a losing cause.

Dolphins were 160-6 before Frylinck and Savage put on 70 off 46 balls to give them a chance. Ramela and Mosehle set-up the chase but it ended Viljoen and Phangiso with a handy partnership to get over the line. Muthusamy bowled 7 overs for 15 before Mosehle smashed him for 22? in an over and that really got the Lions back in the hunt.

Gauteng were champions at Coke Week beating Border in the final. Yet another win for them. EP probably could have made the final and came 3rd. But not much between the two East Cape Teams.

SA U19 WC players didn't make either team : Andile Mokgakane, Hermann Rolfes, Kenan Smith, Fraser Jones, Thando Ntini, Gerald Coetzee. The last 3 hardly bowled as had overs restrictions ahead of the u19 WC.

Will get into CUBS WEEK squads in due course. With the SA u19 side picked and games on the way I wonder if a SA squad will be chosen after the week.

Some interesting reports in recent days.

Firstly about T20 Global League and wanting Indian players and Indian television channel to get the rights to knock Super Sport off their perch. It will be very difficult. The second about a new structure between CSA and SACA for player contracting. Also talks about the 'uneveness' of the Titans SA players in recent Ram Slam but in my opinion you cannot change that on a domestic level - for a 'franchise' T20 tournament yes.

With the Bangladesh T20 Come and gone next up will be the Pakistan T20. Only van Zyl, Delport, Rossouw and Abbott were there but these guys were joined by de Lange for the T10 tournament.

The Pakistan T20 league starts in Feb so these guys won't be around for the domestic 4-day tournament. Some are of course obvious.

Islamabad United : JP Duminy
Karachi Kings : Colin Ingram, David Wiese
Lahore Qalanders : Cameron Delport
Multan Sultans : Hardus Viljoen , Imran Tahir
Peshawar Zalmi : None
Quetta Gladiators : Rilee Rossouw

In Tahir's case - perfect for his ODI schedule and non-selection in our T20 team.

Suprised no Abbott or van Zyl as they haven't played domestic cricket in SA this season. No de Lange either. Good that Harmer still keeps himself available. It seemed like his move was the most amicable.

It seems like these will be the collection of SA players available for these events like England have with KP, Roy, Hales, Morgan, Willey, Billings, Buttler, Jordan, Wright, Bopara,

I don't see how csa can convince BCCI to make Indian players available. Would love to see kohl,Dhoni, ect turning out in SA thought.

As for Titans issue. Easy solution scrap the quotas and all of them can play...

Titans used 15 players in the 20/20 who have either played for South Africa (13) or been called up to the national side within the past year (2). With no quotas some players would still be unhappy there.
The Warriors by contrast had 3 and 1 of them was on loan (Parnell).

Take out the test stars like Elgar, Markram, Faf, AB, QdK, Steyn, Morkel (7 of them of which the union produced 5) the Titans are still very strong forgetting quotas.

Kuhn
Davids
Klaasen
Behardien
Wiese
A.Morkel
Morris
Von Berg
Ngidi
Dala
Shamsi

A Northerns team would beat Zimbabwe with ease
Agathangelou
Vandiar
De Zorzi
Moonsamy
Herman
Kaber
C.Bosch
Hawken
M.Pretorius
Siboto
Mahlokwana

They slowly introducing these Tuks players to the set-up to :

Pillay
Van Buuren
De Swardt
Trumpelmann

Unbelievable depth.

Nice run down of Coke Week.

SeamUp, do you reckon Wiaan Mulder will get some game-time over the India and Australia series? For example, if they don't feel that Phehkulwayo is performing is Mulder the next cap of the rank. Got him as a bolter in the Fantasy Cricket game

With Stefan , feel it's unlikely because whilst he probably is next in line after Phehlukwayo and Morris he is more a batting all-rounder than the other 2.

It will also maybe mean we did really badly against India and been through multiple options in only 3 tests vs India which is unlikely.

ODI's we could possibly see him. But to me he is a proper batsman who builds an innings but ODI cricket is probably where we will get him used to international arena.

If Mulder continues his upward trajectory, he becomes a perfect test no 6 for SA in the future, capable of bowling a good 10/12 overs. If Phehlukwayo steps up a gear, I can see them being a good combination at 6/7 for the future both in tests and LO cricket.

There's also Jason Smith, but he appears to have gone off the boil a bit. But after having a long period without too many all-rounders (a bit unusual given South Africa's history there), there are a few options starting to emerge, although I don't think any of them are quite there yet.

Just been amazed watching the big bash and the number of wrist spinners.

Muirhead, Rashid Khan, Fawad Ahmed, Swepson, Zampa , Shadab Khan, Yasir Shah , Boyce , Hogg, Bowe, Short

We've only got Tahir, Shamsi, von Berg & at provincial level Kaber.

What I've found interesting is our history from when Bosanquet taught Reggie Schwartz leg-spin and googlies and he brought it back to start the famous foursome from early 1900s with White, Faulkner and Vogler to contribute to our first test series win over England.

But it didn't end there. In the 10s, 20s , 30s we also had Xenophen Balaskas bowl us to our first test series win in England and then we also had the fairly successful Sid Pegler and Quintin McMillan with Bruce Mitchell getting 27 test wickets.

Then after the war our first tests back was a tour to England in 47. We still had Mitchell, Nourse, Melville, E.Rowan, Viljoen in the batting (just no Pieter van der Bijl - father of Vince) from timeless test series. In these years we were obviously going through fast bowlers with regularity. But only the opening bowlers were seamers and we then played 3 spinners in Atholl Rowan, Tufty Mann and new leg-spinner Ian Smith.

But since the 50s the proportion has been strongly dominated by finger spinners. Wrist-spinners in this period : Jackie du Preez (Rhodesia & Springboks) , Denys Hobson (EP, WP, SA Rebels), Richard McGlashan (Natal & SA Rebels) & Paul Adams (Wp & Proteas) + the current lot.

Cultural change of spinners in SA. There is some thought the original 4 either died or moved to Britain but their influence still showed in the years to come with others. I also wonder what the effects of matting wickets were.

I take it you don't rate Colin Ingram's legspin as much as the Warriors seem to ;)

Is Mulder injured? See he isn't playing for lions.
Yeah. Supposedly injured a rib for Gauteng. Having a look at that game and considering the cricket he has played I don't think he was looked after to well with the amount of overs he bowled in that match in a short space of time.
