Bavuma at no.4 doesn't work , he's better off at no.6 or no.5 where he can score those useful 30's in a rescue act (I would say out the team but our selection policies have been well documented) , he does try his best but he's just not prolific enough to be a no.4 .
I agree.

But he has to start repaying the faith now. I have no problem with him in the team at the moment and like him as skip, but very few specialist bats would have been given 50 Tests with his average and number of tons.

Bavuma's been SA's best bat in the past few years and is averaging something like 45 in that period in a hard batting era. Unless he falls off a cliff he can choose to do whatever he wants as far as I'm concerned.

I agree but he needs to start making some hundreds. One century in nearly 100 innings from a Top Six bat is simply not good enough.

Sa's best batsman in the past few years isn't saying much and he hasnt gotten a hundred in that period, for us to compete with the best teams we need a top 4 that scores consistently..
Fancy little 30's and 50's isn't going to work at No.4 , that's why I say Bavuma needs to move back to no.5-6 ..At no.4 he averages 27 from 24 innings ..
That's because the higher you bat the less chance of a not out in test cricket.

I don't think where he's batting and the likelihood of getting a not out is the issue, Kallis averaged over 60 at No 4 overall.

I think the issue is that Temba is more of a No 6 than a No 4, as you say.

So much talent but come on now you're in your 12th test match and still haven't made a 50 .

Good comeback from our boys after the tea break. Started bowling tight and that provided the Proteas to manufacture shots. Cat and mouse game.

Kyle getting 2 wickets at the end was bonus.

Still, RSA have enough runs on the board to win by an innings. Just good to see Motie doing ok in alien conditions for a spinner.
Yes, but I am hopeful that our batsmen step up after the last game mishaps.

Motie has always been top-shelf. He's always gonna come at you.

Not sure how to feel about this effort from SA TBH. Middle order haven't been fantastic but dezorzi, and mulder both got fantastic deliveries, and bavuma didn't do a whole lot wrong. Openers both played daft shots and threw away starts of varying quality, but they also saw off the new ball and gave the team a fantastic platform. 350-400 is probably enough in the first innings given this windies side anyway.
