Cricket Web Colts vs Cricket Web Red
at Fardin Qayyumi CC

Cricket Web Colts continued their ascendancy, propelled by a maiden century from rookie Dylan Cole as well as other decent contributions. The second day was otherwise marred by poor conditions, allowing only 61 overs of play, but Colts seemed undeterred by the atmospheric disturbance.

A shortened morning session saw the Red bowlers easily on top of Kerr, though they needed three chances to get him out for 120; Cole brought up the hundred to considerable applause, however, and eased to more boundaries before eventually getting bowled at the stroke of tea. Mike Wilson and Tarick Weber then ground Red further into submission, batting to deny the visitors the third bowling point as well as any chance of batting on the second day - no wickets fell in the afternoon session, which was eventually curtailed by rain at half past six.

Cricket Web Black vs Masters XI
at Pickford Reserve

An evening collapse seems to have ruined the Black charge in the title race, after Lance Klusener, Thomas Odoyo and Michael Johnson ground the bowlers into disaster at Pickford. Cameron Burge was the pick of the bowlers, taking two wickets with uncanny off-spin, while Pickup and Richards continued to waste deliveries for a flat home side.

Heath Davis had boosted the hosts with two wickets in four balls midway through the morning session, while Klusener, after a 221-ball vigil, gave a simple catch to Andrew Cloete. Thus, with Odoyo and the rookie wicketkeeper in, most would have banked on the Blacks to get a chance to bat pretty soon after lunch.

How mistaken they were. Johnson, with the aid of friendly umpires, played out a century partnership with Odoyo that propelled the target into the region of the uncatchable, and though the third new ball brought success for Black, the two Shanes contributed some runs before succumbing to easy catches. Pressure was on the Black batsmen as they resumed to catch the target of 551.

They failed spectacularly. Thomas Odoyo hurled the new ball with genuine pace to rip out rookies Ritchie and Burge, while Dan Smith survived the opening overs only to be caught at midwicket after a hopeless shot to Lance Klusener. When the rock in the middle order, Andrew Cloete, was unjustly given out lbw on 18, the crowd began to leave - they had seen enough of the abject home performance, and were going home to build effigies.

Cricket Web Blue vs Cricket Web Green
at PDV Dome

Cricket Web Blue asserted their dominance on the second day against an inexperienced bowling attack, gaining a lead of some ninety runs, though injudicious shotmaking kept the game alive as a contest.

The hosts preferred a more cautious approach than Green, scoring at about half the rate, but with more security. Fuller brought up the century with a single just before lunch, with Green only holding a 160-run lead, and wickets were required sharpish. The required breakthroughs came just before the new ball, with Young stumped four short of the hundred and Fuller caught off an innocuous ball from Garven, but Cribb and Camps rapidly settled in against the second new ball - though Garven struck again just before tea.

A blistering half-century from Rob Bowen ensured a full compliment of bonus points for Blue, though a strike rate in excess of 120 always provides the chance of a wicket, and a grateful catch was taken by Bowen by 66. Green took two wickets just before the close of play to increase the chance of a third bowling bonus point, though there was only three overs in the morning in which to complete it.

Black really struggling against the Masters, very surprised with this.

For Blue, leading by 89 with 2 wickets remaining puts us in a nice position. :)

BARNES OUT
Oh. For ****'s sake. Poor umpiring, poor fielding, poor bowling and poor batting.

Were any changes made after the last game?
Not much you can do when every single bowler on the roster is playing like **** and we've basically got no batting depth.

But hey, you can take the job if you want. I certainly don't anymore.

Jeez. Shoot someone down for asking a genuine question why don't you.

Feeling that Smith shoots fielders who drop chances the look that I usually shoot Voltman after an indoor misfield!!

Only 6 bowlers from CW averaging under 30 this season (10 wickets or more), guess what, 3 of them are from Black.

Day Three

Cricket Web Colts vs Cricket Web Red
at Fardin Qayyumi CC

Cricket Web Red rest their hopes on their last batting pairing following start city in Goffmouth. The pitch showed little intention of playing ball with the hosts, and it was another toiling day for bowlers, with the exception of Martin West, who snared three wickets to keep the Colts below 600.

Red started positively, with both Luff and Mørk smacking boundaries at will, but Mørk was well held by Daniel Towns at 36. It set a tone for the day; most Reds quickly wafted runs, exccept for Gray, and then toddled off after silly mistakes, mostly to Dylan Cole, who picked up two wickets. Jamee Gray was the sole purveyor of grit, lasting 135 balls, but couldn't even register a half-century before Towns at square leg picked up another catch.

David Kennett was sent out after tea to ward off the older ball; it worked poorly, as Wilson had him caught at fourth slip after fourteen overs, but the bowlers had been tired out and Kearsley batted well at the other end. The second new ball arrived three overs before stumps, and Kearsley promptly edged it behind - only for Fitzsimmons to floor an easy chance. Thus, Red remain alive by the skin of their nails.

Cricket Web Black vs Masters XI
at Pickford Reserve

Alex Blackman's 270-ball score helped Black to three batting bonus points at Pickford, but they still remained far in arrears of the hefty Masters total after yesterday's capitulation. The rest of the order did largely as expected, as the Masters' bowling proved too effective.

The morning had been decent for the hosts, only losing Chaulk to another questionable lbw decision, while Blackman ground his way to 47 at the interval. Warne's bowling rotation was rarely successful, as conditions were once again in favour of the batsmen, and Blackman made the hundred with a beautiful four just before the tea interval and the new ball. It seemed as though Black would have a considerable tail fightback, having already scored more for the sixth and seventh wicket than for the top five, but Bond and Odoyo with the new ball proved irrestisible, and despite an entertaining 15 from Pickup, Black were bowled out 243 runs behind. Asked to follow on, Black lost Ritchie cheaply yet again, as he was caught at the wicket from an Odoyo inswinger, but with 65 runs in thirteen overs they certainly showed aggressive intent.

Cricket Web Blue vs Cricket Web Green
at PDV Dome

Cricket Web Green fought back admirably to keep the Dome contest alive, though the third bonus point eluded them. Thamba Mamesh provided an atlantean effort to keep the Blue bowlers at bay, scoring more than sixty percent of the runs in another frantic day's cricket.

Ben Read and Thamba Mamesh continued the aggressive route from two days ago during the morning session, adding fifty runs to ten fours in what turned out to be a depressing session for the hosts, who had hoped to press the advantage they had got from the other two top sides stumbling.

Chances were abundant, but Blue simply weren't good enough in the field to make them count, and half an hour into the afternoon Green had levelled the scores for no loss of wickets. Then, Rob Bowen had a simple catch to dismiss Ben Read, and Green were effectively zero for one.

A triple haul from Trav Demeza dragged Blue right back into the match, however, as Gonzalez, Dinnen and Reddlapalli all fell to simple catches, and a large responsibility fell on Mamesh' shoulders as he attempted a rescue operation from the effective total of 96 for five. He needed support, however, and with Dubb-Lynch and Chapman both gone easily, it appeared as though it would be a one-man act; after tea, however, Andy Cameron's surprisingly solid bat held out eighty-five deliveries, allowing Mamesh to complete the double century.

Geez, Mamesh was immense. Still definitely in a winning position, but we'll have to bat well to chase 300 odd.

Trav shouldering the bowling load as usual.
