*Official* New Zealand in Zimbabwe 2025 (Tests)

Nicholls is going to end up bowling 20 overs of left arm spin this test.

Even though he's neither left handed, a spinner, nor even a bowler

This injury situation just shows the dangers of going into a 5 day test off the back of a diet of intermittent T20 matches and air travel. It's too cavalier and a recipe for disaster. Not sure what the solution though.
What about with the Aussies, their bowlers at least in recent times seem to have a fantastic injury record. They seem to be doing something right. Perhaps its to do with their main seam attack not playing a lot of T20 and ODI series and saving them for Tests and ICC events.
I guess NZ don't have that luxury with the lack of $ but could maybe rest and rotate more - which I suppose they do anyway with the number of injuries.
Like you say, difficult to know what the solution is.

Nah.

It's just numbers.

Australia have a big enough pool to have 3 robust quicks filling the 3 positions.

And they don't overly notice that Jhye Richardson and James Pattinson didn't last.

Where as in an NZ-sized talent pool, we would keenly feel the loss of a James Pattinson.

Billy Stanlake, Ryan Harris for most of his career. Probably a bunch of guys who had promising starts in FC cricket that we've never heard of because they broke down before making the national team.

Brendan Taylor one of the few active players that debuted in the 2000's..

Made his test debut v Sri Lanka 21 years ago ,
Surely the longest active Test career by timespan.
