i think that either Sehwag and or Gibbs/Smith should open. They have been batting quite well recently. Bond cannot really make it since he has been out for quite some time, most of your choices would be similar to mine. Maybe Warne would fit in too somewhere.

I reckon batting in ODI XI could be moved around easily, if need arises Sewag and Sachin could swap or Gilchrist can go down. I believe top 5 I chose are better than Gibbs. Sachin/Sehwag/Gilchrist can do a better job opening. So Gibbs is unlucky to miss out. He could probably replace Clarke, but then we r missing a late-order finisher.
I keep Gibbs in extras as a backup opener, and obviously a champion fielder.

Also Bond was brilliant last time I saw him. I would hv kept him in team, if it wasn't for his latest fitness worries. Hence he finds himself out of playing XI. As for Warne, I believe Murali is better in tests, and Warne is old now, hasn't got a long way to go. In ODI's, Harbjahan has proved to be the best spinner around in the world.

Harbhajan has not been playing much cricket recently so feel mayb Warne could take his place since he can also bat, For ODI

Its just that he has not had enough time with being captain, perhaps an Australian to captain?

1/ Ponting should be in the Test side too. His overall record and his record over the past couple of years make him an automatic inclusion.
2/ Haven't we had enough of these threads already!??!

Chuck out Brett Lee and put in Jason Gillespie, simple as that. If i had one bowling a tight over for my mortgage i'd have Gillespie every time. Accurate, quick and moves the ball both ways, brilliant bowler. Was the only one who constantly troubled the indians in the '03/'04 tests, and that's saying something.

LOL. How does Harmison make an ODI World XI? How does Bond, having not played for months and months get to carry water? How does Harbhajan get to play? How does Murali miss out? What is Sehwag's claim on an ODI spot? What is Michael Clarke's claim on an ODI spot?

Horrible team IMO.

How does Brett Lee make a World Test XI? How does Vaughan make it ahead of Smith and Richardson?

The lineup referred to has Sehwag at 4 for ODI's. For the opening slot i don't think anyone is arguing with the norm of Tendulkar and Gilchrist opening.I'm certainly not.

Sehwag with Gilchrist is the most destructive combo in ODIs, with SRT coming in at 3.
