**Official** Ireland in Bangladesh

Rankin looks the part when he finds a good rhythm, but he's a completely different bowler whe he doesn't. His knee seems to buckle at the delivery strike and he loses a couple of yards of pace. He'll find it tough in Bangladesh.

They've got some good batsmen but I wonder how many slow, low tracks they've experienced.

Given that we've swept the Zimbabweans at home before, a 3-0 win here should be the target. In fact, after a shamblic series against the Saffers, I'll be pretty pissed off if we drop a match here.

Interesting that the ICC have strangely silent on their presence so far. Looks not unlike a double standard to my eyes.
No one really gives a hoot when its associate players. If it were readily recognisable marketing objects like a star batsman or bowler from a test nation then the ICC would care...
I don't doubt that at all. It looks like hypocrisy from where I sit.

I'm no legal expert, but it does create a precedent I would have thought & with Chris Read seemingly in something of a litigious mood (from The Times) I doubt we've heard the last of this.
In a cricinfo article, the chief of cricket Ireland had an explanation in terms of them not really paying their players anything like a cerntral contract (which is different from all the test playing nations) and so they dont have the same employee status for ICC to control their ICL involvement.

While it is hyporcrisy of sorts, the wrong action is to come down this hard on the ICL players. So the hypocritical action of forgiving the 2 Irish players is the right thing and I wouldnt grudge it or make a fuss of it.
Yeah, will be interesting how it goes with the precedent being set.
The big factor about O'Brien's and Rankin's cases are they didn't take part in the 2nd edition, when the blanket rules about being banned from International Cricket were put in place. I dare say if either returned to ICL, there would be a greater push to ban them. I wouldn't be surprised if CI tapped them on shoulder and said you earned the extra bit of money, now just focus on County Cricket to earn an income.

With regard to Read, he really had no grounds to prove he has been banned from International Cricket. He was never a regular in the English team and therefore the ECB could always argue they aren't selecting him as they have better options. Which Ambrose is showing the potential to be.

Bond is the only one that could really use he Rankin/O'Brien sitiuation for get back into the national side or start a legal case. Mind you someone probably will over just getting banned from domestic cricket.

Great win for the lads today, although not unexpected given the conditions.

Btw, does anyone know why Rankin didn't play at all?

He's still injured, which has been mentioned on this thread at least 2 times now.

EDIT: Langford-Smith didn't step up at all with the ball. Johnston however bowled and batted well. We didn't look like winning by the looks however.

Well that's a real shame. How is one supposed to support one'd national team if even when they are playing abroad one cannot catch the matches on TV?

Might get a report on the radio, that would be about it. Dunno if there will be anything about even on the sports news.

Very surprised to see Kevin O'Brien open the bowling ahead of... well every other bowler that bowled barring McCallan and Thompson, really..

Anyway, delighted to see Nafees back in form. He looked in good touch during the test series and should have kicked on and made a couple more fifties. Went back to his old habit of fishing outside off stump during the ODIs against the Saffers, but looked more or less completely untroubled against Ireland bar a dropped catch.

That said, I suspect that the phrase 'minnow basher' might come up in relation to him after this match, and maybe with some justification. He really needs to show some of this form against the top sides.

Same goes for Mortaza. He ripped through all of the less prominent nations we played against in 2006, and then looked a shadow of himself when faced with the stronger teams in 2007. In fact, I don't think he's ever bowled as badly as he did in the series against South Africa.

Ireland r good, bt playin against a test team is different in a series. They will be a strong team within 10 years considering the growing popularity of the game. Bt BD is not that bad as it looked recent times. They do have world class talents, just their performance is no way near up to the mark!!

Bangladesh 246/8, could be a close finish.
Ireland 67/3 (15 overs), top order has failed to fire and the required runrate is going up. Not looking too good.

Personally I see the problem as the lack of Rankin and Bray with the light Injuries to the other bowlers meaning we are lacking any ability to penetrate the Bangladesh top order. Took 25 overs and 94 runs to pick up the first wicket, that's just not good enough.

Ireland 162 all out. Bangladesh win by 84 runs and make the last game a dead rubber.

I'm disappointed with the top order, they need to relax more and stay in. Bowling can't be helped at the moment.
