Gill getting picked for T20Is is a very regressive move! Team was already one of a kind, batting fearlessly and free hitting everything, going beyond what we thought was achievable, setting higher and higher totals. So absolutely didn't need to go back to old ways and pick a 140-150 SR opening anchor, particularly for pitches in India/Asia.
