Italy won. Nice.
Barring a big NRR swing (please don’t ask me for exact figures!) yes, all they have to do is not get battered by the Netherlands (on current form that does not look likely), and hope that Jersey vs Scotland isn’t a hammering for either side (Jersey ahead on NRR at the moment, if that’s rained off, Scotland are out either way). Barring rain, the Netherlands are in pole position at the moment as they still have Guernsey to playItaly look like there about to upset Scotland. Scotts need 15 off 3 to win.
Edit: holy ****, Italy actually won. 5fer for bbl legend Harry manenti. Does that guarantee Italy a t20 WC spot!
Italy also have Emilio Gay playing for them, who just a few weeks ago was playing for Eng Lions vs Ind A. Another relatively famous name is Thomas Draca, who became the first Italian player ever to register for the IPL.Italy has almost qualified for the next t20 world cup now..between Scotland and Netherlands for the second spot...Joe Burns rings a bell? Australian opener and now captains Italy..
Italy won’t want Burns to play too well or Australia will want him back!Italy also have Emilio Gay playing for them, who just a few weeks ago was playing for Eng Lions vs Ind A. Another relatively famous name is Thomas Draca, who became the first Italian player ever to register for the IPL.
The star of the show though has been Harry Manenti, their talented Italian-Australian all rounder. In the two games he's returned with figures of 17/3 and 31/5 whilst batting at 4 and also scoring 60 runs in the 2 games.
If it happens, Italy vs Australia would be fun to watch in next year's T20 WCItaly won’t want Burns to play too well or Australia will want him back!
It's less surprising when you look at the quality of players they've managed to recruit from England and Australia.Italy beating up on Scotland should be a BIG DEAL
Burns pretty much decided to play for Italy because he got cut by QueenslandItaly won’t want Burns to play too well or Australia will want him back!
Wow, Italy is doing it right then. It's less surprising when you look at the quality of players they've managed to recruit from England and Australia.
It's funny looking at things this side because whilst I see SA have had many cricket players play for Italy (Gian-Piero Meade currently & Jade Dernbach, Garth Berg, Vince Pennazza & Damian Crowley before) I've always felt when I played there was more Portuguese and Greeks that played cricketMoor would have captained Zim if he had stayed there. Never put the numbers expected up for Ireland though he was a beast in their FC.
Just on Italy as well, their League and Union teams both recruit from the massive diaspora so it's not a surprise cricket got in on the act, there are so many Italian Aussies who play cricket it's actually weird it took them so long to get to this level.
There are loads of Greek Australians in Melbourne but I don’t know if Greece has made the same effort to get the diaspora on board. Konstas is one who could play for Greece if he chose to. Hatzoglou is another, he’s local to where I live.I think Australia have also had a strong Greek connection.
