Jayasuriya in Dhaka now to play for Mohammedan

Dhaka, March 4 (bdnews24.com)– Sanath Jayasuriya arrived in Dhaka on Wednesday, a day after terrorists attacked the Sri Lankan team in Lahore, to play for Mohammedan Sporting Club in the Premier Division Cricket League.

The veteran Sri Lankan all-rounder will play his first match against Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan at the Narayanganj Osmani Stadium on Thursday.

Jayasuriya along with Arjuna Ranatunga had earlier played for Mohammedan after helping their country to clinch the 1996 ICC World Cup.

Mohammedan began their campaign with a tie against Young Pegasus and now have five points from six matches, seven points behind joint leaders Bangladesh Biman and holders Abahani.

Biman, however, have played a match less than Abahani's seven.

The left-hander, who has been out of the Sri Lankan Test squad since December 2007, was supposed to come here earlier but he was engaged in South African club cricket instead.

A club official said that it was still unclear whether Jayasuriya would play in the remaining league matches.

Partex 215-4 (47.3) - Shafiul Alam 104 (130b, 10x4, 2x6), Mehrab Hossain Opee 54, Rashid Hanif 35

These games were both apparently played yesterday (7 March) and the scorecards are up on CA. However there is no mention of them in the Bangladeshi press, so I'm not entirely sure what's going on. Also the table on CA lists Surjo Torun as having two games abandoned, which doesn't appear the case.

Gazi Tank 230-6 (50) - Mohammad Ashraful 69, Pravanjan Mullick 38, Naeem Islam 46*, Mukhtar Ali 39*

After a disappointing main stage, Tamim Iqbal finally came good with the bat at Mirpur, smashing 164 from 143 balls, with 18 fours and 4 sixes. He added 158 with Indian batsman Parida. Gazi Tank's thin hopes faded when they lost openers Imrul Kayes and Mithun Ali for ducks, although there were encourging runs from Mohammad Ashraful and Naeem Islam.

At Fatullah, Khaled Mashud dug Surjo Torun out of a whole, putting on an unbroken 33 with Sanjamul Islam for the eighth wicket. Earlier, Mohammedan's misfiring top order all made starts, but none could make a considerable score and it took Shuvo to smash 41 from 33 balls to set a target.

Partex 234-9 (50) - Tariq Ahmed 76, Rezaul Haque 33

Biman scraped a narrow victory against the league's surprise package. Batting first, Biman's top order all contributed as they ran up 241, despite Omar Faruk's five wicket haul. Partex were strygling when they lost four wickets within 18 overs and batsmen fell at regular intervals.
