Warner on the downhill slide, Smith also just not as far down yet.

Can you afford 'Loose Cannon' Starc if the batsmen cant make 400 nearly every innings ?

Couldn't be trusted to bowl at the death today.
The thing about the core of this side is how long ago they made their Test debuts - Smith, Paine, Cummins, Warner, Starc and Lyon all in 2010-11 (as did James Pattinson).

Most of them have got a lot to offer still but fair to say Paine, Lyon, Starc, Pattinson and Warner's best days are behind them.

it was murdered when Wade opened the batting. it just took a month to find the body
I remember half celebrating this because I thought it might be a gateway to dropping him, but then the fact that he'd done it and failed somehow managed to count in his favour whenever it was brought up ffs.

This season reminded me of 2010/11 in that Australia was in a false sense of security by the soft home summer the season before.

In 09/10 it was series wins against a flaky Pakistan lineup and mediocre Windies side that also made them avoid hard selection choices on the clearly flawed players like Hauritz and North until it was too late and one of the reasons the Ashes went so dismally.

Similarly, there were clear issues with Wade and Burns last season but because they had soft 4 day wins against NZ and Pakistan they took the easy option until it was too late.

Easy fix.

Commission a wide ranging review headed by a former Macquarie Group or Rio Tinto chairman into Aussie cricket and implement all recommendations including hiring a high performance guru from the Wallabies who preferably went to a GPS school say Newington or Sydney grammar who Langer is ultimately answerable to. All problems solved. Australia will soon be on top again and on their way to world domination ala 1995-2008.

That is close but not quite right.
