Vettori preferred to Martin in the ODIs.
Martin has the better bowling average, they both have an almost identical RPO and Vettori provides extra batting ability.

NZ v England (1st ODI)

New Zealand - 282/3

R.Taylor - 114no
M.Sinclair - 58no

England - 140

S.Bond - 5/30

Ross Taylor made the most of his opportunity by posting an unbeaten century. :)
Our big score was always going to be too much for the hapless English and they provided little real resistance. Shane Bond continued his recent devastating form by wrapping up the innings with three wickets in the final over of the match.

A.Flintoff -3/43
C.Tremlett - 3/51

Kevin Pietersen scored a fine unbeaten century, but I didn't think England had got quite enough to be safe.
However, the pitch got lower and slower in true NZ fashion, and we couldn't quite manage the task.

This was a game that we rescued from the dead! :-O

After Ian Bell had scored a stylish 98 to help England to a sizeable 260/8, we were dead in the water at 95/6 and then 142/7.
But Daniel Vettori had other ideas. With a big point to prove to the selectors and with a well overdue helping hand from Bond with the bat, we scored an improbable victory off the final ball of the match!

NZ now 2-1 up in the five match series.

The fourth ODI saw the return from injury of England captain Michael Vaughan and boy was he out for blood.
With the English troops rallying behind him, we were never in this one.
We again relied on our allrounders to rescue us, but our total was moderate at best.
With Vaughan and Strauss putting on a century opening stand, there were to be no miracles for us today.

What horrible conditions for an ODI with very cloudy weather and a very slow outfield.
Fortunately we won the toss and put England in!

M.Pettini was England's highest scorer with 25 as our pacemen ran through them like a knife through butter.

Stephen Fleming, in his final NZ appearance in any form of cricket, crafted 34 before walking off to a standing ovation.
Keeper Timothy Weston went one better with 36no as he guided us through in tricky circumstances.

NZ take the ODI series 3-2. :)

Actually I just realise that the West Indian tour fits in before Flem's 35th birthday, so the celebrations were premature! :naughty:

Our warmup game against a strangely selected and inept Barbados team was little more than a confidence building exercise for many of our players.

Here was the Barbados lineup:
R.Hinds, D.Smith, F.Reifer, C.Browne, I.Bradshaw, S.Benn, R.Nurse, T.Best, C.Collymore, J.Bennett, P.Collins.
Chockful of bowlers with very few batsmen! :-O
Mathew Sinclair has had a disappointing season for us so far, but after scratching his way to 50 with the benefit of a couple of dropped catches, he blossomed and may well have played himself back into the form that we require of him. :)

The bowlers all picked up wickets and the selection dilemma now faced is whether or not to include both Oram and Styris in the test side.
Scotty scored a century and also showed good form with the ball whereas Oram has been a more than useful member of the test eleven to date.

We decided to play both Oram and Styris because Oram can be classified as a batsman in his own right.
Lou Vincent got the nod over Craig McMillan based on test performances this season.
No help is expected for spinners on this pitch, so we've gone in with the three specialist pacemen, backed up by Oram and Styris.

New Zealand - 2/0

The Windies batsmen came blasting out of the blocks, flaying our bowlers to all parts of the ground.
Led by Shivnarine Chanderpaul, they were looking strong at 329/4, but lost a couple of quick wickets just before the second new ball was due.
Shane Bond was all fired up after his earlier flogging, and he took the opportunity to rip out the tail and restrict the home side to 351 all out! :)
The Windies had lost their last six wickets for 22 runs!

A good day at the office for our batsmen with all contributing handily.
The decision to stick with Mathew Sinclair despite his disappointing test season to date was vindicated as he scored a fine unbeaten century.
Now we have to avoid the calypso collapso that saw a dramatic end to the Windies' first innings effort.

The two overnight batsmen fell early on the fourth morning and we only managed to garner a first innings lead of 139 as a result. :@

However, facing such a deficit did not faze the aggressive nature of the Windies openers. With Chris Gayle in scintillating touch, they go into Day Four 70 runs ahead and in a good position to make life difficult for us in the fourth innings.
We need quick wickets desperately tomorrow. :wallbash:
