NZ 'A' opponents for next season

I'd pick Sherlock based on potential and yep I'd take him on the tour. Perhaps take Gillespie too, I'm more interested in taking away potentially quick bowlers, and SA is an ideal place to do that. I'd take Adama ahead of Mills/Mason as well, he has a little more to him, and is likely to make things happen.

These days you don;t need the donkey plodder into the wind and especially if we have Styris and hopefully Astle available to bowl.

We're past the days of Chatfield, Sneds, etc. Doull was only very medium pace but he really had the ability to swing it, if we had another of those i'd advocate that selection.

That's wahy i'd hate to see a Joey Yovich type player (including the man himself) picked in any teams, medium bowler, number 6 bat at best - i can't really see that of being any use in the future, unless he can really develop one or more of those arts (as Oram has done)

I suppose i'm thinking soley Test match stuff here, perhaps there is still a place for Mills/Mason in the ODI's where wicket taking ability isn't as crucial.

So therefore maybe both of them should go, to at least gain experience at a higher level, maybe i've contradicted myself here, but bottom line I don;t get excited when i see Mills or Mason picked for any team.

While i'd really like to see Sherlock go on tour, its hard to see him being selected. I think the selectors will be keen for him to play some more FC matches back here first.

The other bowler i'd like to see is Te Ahu Davis. He is also very quick but again like Sherlock has played little FC cricket.

A certainty for the S.A tour will be Ross Taylor & I can't wait to see him bat again..he really is probably the best prospect we've had in years alongside Jesse Ryder. The good thing with Taylor though is that it seems he's got a very good head on his shoulders.

I would be wanting to give Sherlock and Davis some time and give them a chance to prove themselves or least show some promise.

I don't think they should pick youngsters just for the sake of it.

Vettori played two FC games when he got picked, but I'm not in favour of just picking somebody out of the blue.

Whoops - I deleted my post so I could go and check my facts, then Craig replied. Here it is again...

I guess with 29 players about to be named there's plenty of scope for a bolter or two, but it would be a controversial move to pick Sherlock, coming back from injury with only 5 f/c wickets to his name.

On the other hand, Butler did make a test debut with only 12 wickets to his name, and being 10-15kph faster than average (or having a reputation for it) gets a lot of selectors swooning.

Canning and Walmsley?

Sometimes this 'experience' thing can be taken a little far, and I certainly hope Sherlock won't be under those two in the pecking order. That would undermine the bold move to take him in the first place.

I'd like to think that the likes of Sherlock & Franklin will be amongst the premier bowlers of the side along with C & B Martin, with perhaps one other (Mason or Canning - depending on if they are viewing Franklin as a 'specialist' or 'allrounder')..................

Bell
How
Sinclair
Fulton
Taylor
Vincent
Hopkins
Franklin
B Martin
C Martin
Sherlock
