Now that Ashwin and Kohli have retired, where do you rank them?

Neither are ATG, Kohli just disappeared and Ash wasn't nearly enough of a threat away from helpful conditions.

As some have suggested, Tayfield can very easily be rated above him, and I've seen Gibbs and others rated above Tayfield.

This isn't actually as crazy as it sounds. Kane's average flatters him. Minnow basher/home track bully
Nah

Yes we are all aware of Kane’s shortcomings in certain conditions but one thing he has never stopped doing is scoring runs. You would have him struggling in a certain set of conditions but he'll usually back that up with a mountain of runs usually at home

Kohli has been ****ing **** for 5 years. IIRC he wasn't settling the world on fire till well in to 2016 either. I remember being annoyed at people grouping him in the fab four back in the day when he was averaging in the early 40s while the rest were churning out the runs in 50s. I believe he is the last to become a world class test bat from the fab four and the first to stop being one

Of course that 3 year peak was one of the best ever as he scored against every one every where but it is just a little too brief for me

Yes, but of cricketers to have taken 300+ wickets only 2 (Botham with 14 and Kapil with 8) scored more test 100s than Ashwin's 6. Imran and Vettori also got 6 100s and everyone else is lower.

The likes of Tayfield and Gibbs were bunnies.

Unless Smith, Kane and Root have equally terrible tail ends to their career, Kohli probably doesn't even make it into the XI of his generation (if selecting an all-rounder at 6). He's way down the list for me, probably top 50 batter, despite his incredible high. I'd put him alongside someone like KP.

Ashwin I find hard to rate. No 5fers in SENA is a glaring gap in his resumé. In the same bracket as Jimmy Anderson - ATG record and career achievements but a tier below the very best.
