2 Yes.
3 Green - Mundine is a rugby player, not a boxer. His glass jaw may pose a problem for him...
Danny Green. Experienced professional Australian boxer, trained by Jeff Fenech, fought at the Olympics and so on. Has a bit of a rivalry with Mundine, based mostly on them not fighting for a long time despite both beign title contenders in the same weight division from the same country, and a lot of smack talk.BoyBrumby said:Ok, I know Mundine (assuming he's the ex-St George player), but who's Green?
Green dropped him a year ago.FaaipDeOiad said:Danny Green. Experienced professional Australian boxer, trained by Jeff Fenech, fought at the Olympics and so on. They are fighting on Wednesday, so there's been a big build up.
There all good points. People forget that when Mundine was knocked out by Ottke he had a lazy defence and didn't protect his jaw as much as he should. Since then he has done what all good boxers do, he has let his ego do the talk out the ring, and then shelve the ego once in the ring and get down to the important business of winning the fight.FaaipDeOiad said:I'm watching it with a bunch of bogan Green fans at a party to mark the occasion, should be pretty amusing.
I'm looking forward to it quite a bit actually. I've gotten a bit of a taste for boxing recently, and I like Mundine, partially because he's talented and partially because he annoys people so much, so I'm hoping he wins, and might have a bit of money on it too.
I think Green can only win if he gets an early knockout. The longer the fight goes, the better Mundine's chances are, because he's a far better boxer on a technical level. Green has a dynamite punch, which is something Mundine definitely doesn't have, so he's the most likely candidate for an early knockout, but as it goes on Mundine's speed and ability will catch up with him and I think Green will struggle.
Tipping Mundine on points, or possibly by a TKO in the later rounds.
Wait, hang on. Let's get one thing right, Mundine's still egotistical in and outside the ring. The last fight he had against a quality opponent was against Mikkel Kessler, where he taunted and teased his way to a loss.Mister Wright said:There all good points. Mundine's defence now is top shelf and he has always been a great attacking boxer. His combinations will be too much for Green who looks too much for the big punch and often puts too much of his weight on his left side, waiting to move in with the hook or upercut. I doubt Mundine will let him get a look at his jaw early on with his quick feet moving green around. He'll attack from the left and the right to make Green unsure of where the next one will come. He'll attack ribs then head. Won't use the uppercut early to give Green an early shot, but as Green gets more tired it might come out. Expect to see a lot of Green on the ropes early.
And a lot of people have said that decision was bogus (it is boxing afterall). People have also said Mundine can't take a hit to the jaw, he took one a gainst Kessler, his legs wobbled, but he was still standing. Mundine may taunt and tease (that's a part of boxing) but he knows when to knuckle down, his trainers are smart and they know how to prepare him for a fight.benchmark00 said:Wait, hang on. People are saying if it lasts the distance Mundine will win, not true. Against Kessler, another power hitter, it went the distance and Mundine looked very average.
Ah. Ta. Doesn't mention him ever being a World Champ like howard said tho. Mind you, with the alphabet-soup titles around nowadays he could quite easily have been.Craig said:Danny Green is a boxer from WA and has been looking towards this fight for a long time, mainly to shut Mundine up. I think that is the reason why a lot of people I know want Green to win is mainly to shut Mundine up or his head or his ego will become the size of the Tunisa and that they think Green is a better boxer.
Whilst I'm no boxing fan per se, I can't wait for this fight - one of the rare times I might go to the pub.
Profile on Danny Green
Yeah, but he -was- trained by Fenech, just like Mundine was trained by his dad, until recently. I just mentioned it because it was a point he might be recognised on.benchmark00 said:Green dropped him a year ago.
He trains Tyson et. al.Mister Wright said:Who does Fenech train now? Is it Tszu or Tyson? Can't quite remember.
