Morne Morkel to retire from international cricket after Australia series

You can when one of the careers in question is much longer
But do you go by matches or time, considering that some players (Anderson) have more opportunities than others (Morkel)? If you wanted to compare Morkel and Anderson, it would be better to take a sample or samples of Anderson's career by year/season/time that replicates the distribution of matches that Morkel played. If you want to go by matches then I can just as easily argue that you should include Anderson's early career but not his most recent performances as Morkel hasn't played that many matches, the same as what Furball did but from the opposite approach.

My point is that you can't just look at raw averages of 2 players when one has a significantly higher number of wickets and wonder why the guy with 500+ wickets is more lauded.
I think I'll go with this. Chopping and selecting portions of a career would always raise the question: why is it being chopped this way and not some other way.

Though there would be many people who are convinced that Morkel is much the better bowler: the gap between his home record and his away record is quite small.

That actually made me want to look that up.

Humm, strictly by numbers this does show that Rabada still has work to do to be on par with Donald/Steyn and not just in the more wickets category.

Yeah in New Zealand and in England he wasn't at his best.

Australia pretty decent. Especially at the WACA.

I had no idea Ntini's record was that uneven. Turns out he couldn't handle NZ, SL and Zim.
Likewise. Did fairly well in England, Aus and Windies and he always ran in no matter what.

Thinking back. We had a nightmare Sri Lanka tour or 2. Jayasuriya the one tour then the mammoth Sangakkara/Jayawardene partnership.

Also whilst our results have been very good in New Zealand we did have some real hard days out there. Thinking Papps debut with McCullum ? Trying to remember if Fleming got into us on a couple of ocassions.

EDIT

A bit of Styris, Cairns, Oram ,

Only series we didn't win since re-admission in NZL

The series will be remembered about the crater in the Hamilton pitch.
