Do teams make the following trades?

80s NZ exchanging Hadlee for Marshall?

2010s SA exchanging Kallis for Hammond?

Current India exchanging Bumrah for Warne as captain and bowler?

80s Australia exchanging Allan Border for Steve Smith as bat and captain?

80s Pakistan exchanging Miandad for Anderson?

2000s Australia exchanging Damien Martyn for Mushtaq Mohammad?

No.

Yes.

No but they should, India has enough spinners and Kohli had a fetish for fast bowlers.

Hmmm probably not

Yes, Anderson and Imran would rule the world.

Probably.

Would SA find Hammonds bowling good enough to fill the gap by Kallis?

Kallis until the end of the 2000s was almost used at times as a third seamer.

Wouldnt Warne be a more reliable option for India now?
Doesn't really take away from the fact just how much we need an ATG pacer to lead us away from home, no spinner can change/substitute for him. The only ones I'd consider taking over Bumrah in the XI are Marshall, Imran, McGrath, Hadlee.

Warne is a real force away from home and won't break down like Bumrah.

Logically speaking Warne is the better option since he was great against everyone except us and is more durable and will play more games as well.

For the first time in almost 100 years, we have produced an all time great fast bowler(arguably the best ever), so it is going to be hard for us to trade him.

Not in the same way as ATG pacers are. He won't take the new ball and have the opposition 4 down by lunch. If you add on the bowling conditions that are prepared around the world these days, especially for Indian teams, Warne wouldn't do better than Bumrah even with more durability.

I'm glad that more folks are accepting this point.
Isn’t that just too obvious? Spinners are dependant on the conditions much more than fast bowlers.

Shane Warne averages 27.6 & 28.4 in the 1st and 2nd innings of a Test match whereas his average improves to 22.7 & 23.1 in 3rd innings & 4th innings of the match.

Yes, if they can get him to bowl a bit more.
Will pick Hammond ahead of Kallis , but Hammond’s bowling output will never tally with Kallis. Hammond at peak ranked 7th at his best with little teams and having relating weaker bowling. Kallis ranked 6th at his best with 10 teams and having a superior bowling line up in his side.

Hammond had very high peer reputation with the ball and more variety with his bowling, there are instances of him ripping through very strong batting casually with the bowl.

I don't think he can be Kallis level but he is an easily better Batsman and if the bowling gap is of few points it won't matter
