Both good batsman. Taylor opened the batting for the entire if his career.

Boon opened the batting 63 times, batted at number 3 position 111 times and had short stints at 4, 5 6 & 7.

I didn't think politics came into it when assessing/ranking players?
Of course it does. Politics comes into everything. People are their political beliefs. So if you're conservative or right wing, you're a fair bit backwards and invariably an arsehole. Of course that's a factor in rating people in any endeavour.

And don't even start me on Libertarians and their imbecilic opinions on everything.
