Among the series I've watched:
Batting:
- Dravid and Mark Richardson India vs NZ 2002. Brilliant batting in seaming conditions, looked levels above the other batsmen in that series. Dravid's 76 at Wellington in particular is an ATG sub 100 knock.
- Graeme Smith in Australia 12/13. "Only" averaged 42 in a very high scoring series with road pitches, so it doesn't seem that impressive, but I thought he was terrific. Played two great innings: an excellent hundred in Adelaide which was crucial in saving the game, and then in Perth even though Amla and de Villiers got huge hundreds, he made an 80 odd that was as important if not more. SA had a 60 run first innings lead and he made 84 in just 100 balls, by the time he was out, SA's lead was at 260 with only two wickets lost and it wasn't even the end of day 2 so they had tons of time left. His attacking partnership with Amla killed the game completely.
- Pujara in Australia 2021. Only averaged 33.8 but occupied a metric ton of time at the crease which was crucial in wearing out Australia's bowlers. All 3 of his fifties were vital, and even his 40 odd in the first game came in tough conditions and set up a big lead (which India wasted in that game but hey cant have everything).
- Hayden in SA, 2006. Averaged only 38 but two excellent innings in there.
- Brian Lara vs SA, 2001
Bowling:
- Gillespie in India 2001: 13 wickets @30, but he honestly bowled amazing. His spell early on day 4 at Kolkata was unplayable at times and it's a small miracle within a miracle that Dravid/Laxman were able to survive it.
- Rangana Herath in England 2014: An 8 wickets @44. This is bit of an odd pick maybe but I genuinely thought he bowled really well and was unlucky not to pick up a hatful more wickets. Kept things tight for the most part and bowled great in the second test in particular which won the series.
- James Anderson in India 2012: Really good on flat, slow decks
- Ashwin in Australia 2021. 12 wickets @28 in 3 tests seems good but unspectacular, but he consistently took key top order wickets and caused huge problems for Smith and Marnus who never looked that comfortable vs him. It's downplayed so much but it's insane that a finger spinner was arguably the best bowler on a winning tour in Australia. As a bonus, he played a match saving innings with the bat in the game where he had a sub-par game with the ball. Top series, arguably should've been MoTS too.
