Lillee is a better bowler anywhere on planet Earth than Ashwin, by far, but the Indian pitches were simply far more productive for spin bowling than Australian ones were for bowling in general, so Ashwin would've the higher output.

it's kinda like Marshall at home vs Philander at home

No it isn't. Australia had plenty spicy pitches at home and Indian pitches being ranked turner is a bit I have busted previously.

It's doesn't have to be rank turner for them to be spin friendly from Day 1 which have been pretty common the last decade.

You just need to go through the list of average to newbie spinners who have struck gold in India the last decade when touring to know who had easier conditions.

Lillees' was bounce and pace friendly but India this past decade is comparable to SA generally as afar as bowling friendly conditions.

that's just proving the point, you yourself have said Indian pitches even in the flat era were fast turners on the majority.
I don't remember saying that honestly. And Santner bowled genuinely very good in this series. Indian pitches overall are definitely spin friendly and have been moreso since the 2010s, but same can be said for the 70s Aussie pitches as well. Some people make out as we are making stickies here. We aren't. There are like 3-4 rank turners in Ashwin's whole career. In fact the averages of touring spinners in the 2000s and the 2010s is practically the same.

the quality of touring spinners have gone to **** though, and current India being as spin friendly as current South Africa is pace friendly shouldn't be a controversial stance

It's not lottery pitches it's the prevalence of generally Day 1 spin friendly wickets.

Not nearly as much as you make them out to be.
The fact that as a norm a pitch can turn a fair bit from Day 1 is itself a bit of an abherration for India. In the 90s Day 1 and 2 were normally batting friendly.

Cricket India around 2015 it seems made a decision to push for more result oriented spin wickets in domestic and intl games.

Yes exactly. This is like someone arguing SA pitches are like England.

anyway, voted Ashwin because he achieved more on his home wickets. Kinda like a Trueman vs Laker situation here.

And so has the quality of Indian batsmen. And no one but Warne and Murali were top quality in the 2010s as well.
It is a controversial stance!!! Show me a pitch we made like 2nd India SA Test in 2023. SA pitches are much spicier than the Indian ones.
