Kohli is the slightly better batsman but who is the better captain?
Nah Kohli is the worse batsman.

Also well, neither is test captain any more but one of them still captains their country in ODIs so I’ll go with Williamson.

Both led their teams to a WC final loss (though did NZ really lose?) Both also led their teams to a WTC final against each other, with NZ coming out on top.

fun fact: Bumrah sucks in the clutch, 2021 WTC final was one of only 2 matches where he’s taken 0 wickets - off almost 37 overs (the ofher was a low scoring home game dominated by spinners where he only bowled 6 overs).

Also captaincy is at an interesting place in tests atm. A lot of the time in the past it was a premier batsmen captaining their side. Definitely not the case today. Of current captains, you could only really say that about Braithwaite (Ervine for Zimbabwe too?). We’re also at a big point of turnover amongst captains, only one captain has been the leader of his team for over 5 years - Braithwaite again, since 2017 - in fact I think the next closest is Cummins since 2021.

It depends if you prefer an overly animated aggressive captain or a cool and calm captain.

I personally prefer the latter which is why I rate Williamson above McCullum and Rahane above Kohli.

Rohit is a premier batsman as is Babar and Temba for their respective teams, arguably Shanto too

By premier I meant clearly recognised as the number one bat in the team - which despite current form Kohli is still recognised as.

Shanto definitely hasn’t shown that yet, Babar is no longer captain, and SA I can’t even keep track of lately they’re such a mess, though if Bavuma continues he will probably be.

That mother****er was so calm we had NZ 9 down at home in a test with like 100 runs left for NZ still and the ****er had fielders on the outer ring and boundary.
Kohli for all his faults isn’t losing that test.
