Nine years isn't too short, but it is short relative to ATG discussions which he does have the right to be involved in. The RPW across Ken Barrington's overseas tests is 37.64. That's very high. Of course, his overseas record is still excellent, but he clearly had kind conditions away from home by and large.
An argument in Barrington's favour against Dravid is having tougher home conditions. But this is hindered a lot by Dravid's great record in England.
No reason to compare the home record of one player to an away country of another If trying to get a measure of how tough they had it are. 50% and 5% of games (or whatever the numbers are for particular players) are vastly different.

Doubt there is much in common for English pitches/general playing conditions 50 years apart Either.

Generally agree with your principle there.

Kenny had less obvious flaws in his game but Dravid played way more. Going Rahul.

Tom Graveney in a book mentions these 4 in the same category

Ken Barrington
Geoffrey Boycott
Michael Colin Cowdrey
Ted Dexter

and seems to rate Barrington/Boycott as interchangeable.

If Boycott played Barrington's games in Barrington's age curve he would be extremely prolific.

For comparison

Barrington (28-38)
80 matches 128 innings 6754 @ 59.76 20 tons 35 fifties
Boycott (28-38)
49 matches 86 innings 4078 @ 52.96 14 tons 20 fifties

(note: this is excluding Barrington’s 1955 tests, and it was during this part of his career where Boycott missed a bunch of tests)

Since Boycs retirement only two other notable test batsmen have reached the age of 41, Gooch and Misbah.
