I mean, could also say Athy did better from a team standpoint than Geoff really....well that just means Mankad's bowling > Kapil's bowling.

Tbh he is rated a lot higher here than other places so he’d be happyJesus christ imagine if Boyc reads the forum.
I actually prefer my openers to be slow scorers. Have no problem with your Huttons, your Sutcliffes and your Mitchells. What I don't like, are selfish pricks like Boycott, who absolutely refused to give two ****s about team needs and match situations and just plays for themselves.#intent variety
It really is nuts the amount of people who are determined to think slow scoring turns serious amounts of otherwise wins into draws, ignoring both that:
1. "Close draws" in this way has been as rare as hen's teeth throughout history
2. Slow scoring would turn as many losses into draws as it would wins into draws in the average side anyway
I think it's just a post-facto justification for big dick winning aggressive cricket. They want it to be true and therefore it is. Preferences wrapped up in pseudo-intellectual theories.
what other places?Tbh he is rated a lot higher here than other places so he’d be happy
Bandwagoner..I do love my allrounders
Boycott also would just be rotated down the order in declaration innings nowadays so his slow scoring would have virtually no detriment.Cook, openers playing fast, especially in countries with excessive sideways movement is basically brain-dead behaviour
My methods yield results.. like getting Travis Head to play.I love rating great allrounders as better cricketers than specialists historically. I don't love selecting my number five bat based on how much he'll add as the sixth bowler for four overs a day.

He was basically India’s Botham but not mediocre against the West Indies like BothamKapil was better, he is basically the James Anderson of that era without any support except that he was great against Wi and Aus (top two teams)both home and away, something which Jimmy couldn’t pull off.
He was also a 32 averaging bat which alone would have got him a OBE or MBE in England.
I do love my allrounders a but Kapil and Botham are the ones I think I rate the least compared to general public opinion.
I also think Boycott is underrated due to his strike rate (which I basically just don't care about at all, but in the case of openers perhaps even have the opposite opinion to the majority).
So I've crossed the floor from the Allrounders Caucus to join the Coronis Party on this one.
Any other place people discuss cricket really.what other places?
I think the most recent B/G test definitely showed the importance of being able to see off the new ball, especially if its moving a lot, which should be the opener’s job. Much easier to do with a more defensive mindset than say, a Hayden or a Sehwag mindset.I actually prefer my openers to be slow scorers. It's amazing that we don't actually have an Imran Khan vs Barry Richards thread.Any other place people discuss cricket really.
