Was he tho?
Was never really as bad as Botham. Better record against (and in) Australia and most importantly, was pretty great against (and in) WI. Botham sucked against them hard. Also, Kapil never reaching great heights is not really true. In 1983, he took 75 wickets @22. It's in top 7 for a calendar year. Adjust for home conditions, and that 1 run difference turns pretty meaningless really quick.

Botham was alright v WI with the ball before the 1985/86 tour but his batting was a persistent disappointment. Suspect he wasn't the best player of bounce. Garner got him a lot.

Bloody hell. I see this included the Windies home and away. Also that in 1979 he took 74 @ 23 in one fewer game.

I didn't know that.

Seems like you have a list of greatest calender year performances.
CAN I SEE IT 🔫?
No, nope I don't. Yesterday Coronis posted a statement about bowlers with most wickets sub 15 in a calendar year, as Bumrah jointly has the most with 62 this year alongside Imran. So, I was just looking at most wickets in a calendar year and found that.

Warne: 96 @22 (05)
Murali: 90 @17 (06)
Lillee: 85 @21 (81)
Donald: 80 @19.6 (98)
Murali: 80@21 (01)
Garner: 79@20.6 (84)
Kapil: 75@23 (83)
Murali: 75@19.5 (00)
Kapil: 74@23 (79)
Kumble: 74@25 (04)
Steyn: 74@20 (08)

So Kapil twice in top 10 actually...... Didn't notice that myself.

Kapil's bowling is more compareable to Michael Atherton's batting then Geoffrey Boycott's imo

I do love my allrounders a but Kapil and Botham are the ones I think I rate the least compared to general public opinion.

I also think Boycott is underrated due to his strike rate (which I basically just don't care about at all, but in the case of openers perhaps even have the opposite opinion to the majority).

So I've crossed the floor from the Allrounders Caucus to join the Coronis Party on this one.

Cook, openers playing fast, especially in countries with excessive sideways movement is basically brain-dead behaviour
