a player excellent regardless of conditions with great performances and consistency over a large sample size, one who gets generally rated among the best and could be argued to be the best of their era, or atleast could be argued they'd be best had they played in a different era.
Basically.

Being a contender for, if not being the best in the world, or of your era.
A match winner, someone capable of turning a session, match or series.

Someone who impacted the game.

And lastly, for the top two top tiers, someone who can easily make the shortlist for an AT XI or squad.

So like, Sobers is legit closer to Don than Imran huh.....
Yes.

If one goes back to include Grace, there's a 3 man pantheon of the sport. If it's 20th century and after or just tests, it's Bradman and Sobers.

The notion that this is a surprise or doubted exists solely on this site.

Ummmmm

Marshall / McGrath

Hadlee / Ambrose / Steyn / Warne / Muralitharan

Donald / Lillee / Wasim / Holding / Imran / O'Reilly

Lindwall / Bumrah / Trueman / Garner / Pollock / Davidson / Cummins / (Barnes)

Younis / Walsh / Rabada / Anderson / Roberts / Miller / Statham / Willis

And that's just the pacers in that tier, so it's still the spinners, then the other bowlers in subsequent tiers like Hall, Philander, Snow etc before I get to Kapil, it's considerably more than two tiers.
The gap between Bradman and Sobers as batsmen is 4 times bigger than the bowling gap between Donald and Kapil though.

Absence of 65 avg, 70 avg, 75 avg, 80 avg, 85 avg batsmen doesn't mean Sobers is next to Bradman tier in batting.

Actually that makes Bradman Super Mega ATG pro max or something like that. Sobers is not even super ATG in any category. An ATG batsman + 5th bowler can't be compared to a super ATG.. For that Sobers needs to upgrade his bowling to ATG standards.
ATG batsman + ATG bowler = Super ATG batsman. ( someone capable of averaging 75 with bat )
Then there will be only 3-4 league difference between Super ATG Sobers and Super Mega ATG pro max Bradman.

Bradman averages 100. Sobers 57. Sobers averages 34 with the ball at a S.R. of 92. That doesn't take him close. Neither does his slip fielding, a tertiary skill. Now if one believes that Don's average would fall to 50-60, sure. And no, they are not widely seen as equal in any community. There are some people who rate Kallis as the greatest cricketer ever, doesn't mean that he's now in a pantheon with Don, it just means they are overrating him.

There's a one man pantheon. Don Bradman.

there’s Bradman, then there’s daylight, then there’s Sobers and a whole bunch of others including your hated Imran. All the same.

Bradman is a Super Saiyan Blue, and we have a few others around Super Saiyan level.
