Ponting really struggled in India as a Test batter. And if he is an ATG Test batsman, then surely Root should be an ATG Test batsman. Similarly to Root, Ponting, Kallis and Sangakkara, whom people here consider as ATG Test batters (I also rate them as ATG Test batters), struggled at least in one country they toured in. (Some of them in multiple countries.) And people are forgetting the fact that Root had his batting peak in one of the toughest eras to bat in in Test history. (still going strong tbh) If we're going to rate test batters prioritising peer reputation, we can rate Trumper ahead of Bradman. (iirc, 15 out of 16 people chose Trumper ahead of Bradman) Peer rating sucks tbh. Root also had some amazing series performances with the bat, which he singlehandedly won England a series. (like his 2021 SL tour) And Root had to carry the weight of a bs English batting line-up most of his career.

I will admit I may be too tough on Root by considering him an ATVG. Let's see.
