Two great players of fast bowling
I reckon when one is decisively better it means it's not very close and when reasonable arguments can be made for either side but you agree with a specific one then it's close.Tbh I’m never really sure how to define close and not close. I mean I have them in seperate but neighbouring tiers but what does that mean in terms of closeness.
Yea it’s disrespectful to Smith to say it’s not closeIt’s of course close, very close. Everyone is very close at that level, everyone in the top 10. Very close in fact except Sir Don.
Tbh it all boils down to what you mean by close.Yea it’s disrespectful to Smith to say it’s not close
All cept One.Tbh it all boils down to what you mean by close.
They are close in a sense that all top 10 batters are close in quality. It's not close in a sense that It feels wrong to swap the two in my ranking.
Victor Trumper>Don Bradman imo.All cept One.
One batsman to rule them all
What are the reasons ?Jack Hobbs and it's not even close.
played for 22 years, had generally tougher pitches via wet wickets and matting ones in South Africa, opened, averaged higher, has the peer reputation to be the finest Batsmen over ATGs like Sutcliffe/Hammond while being 42+ after years of illness and war which is literally unheard of.What are the reasons ?

and peer reputation, Hobbs was considered a batting god well into his 40s while Smith is not even decisively rated as the best of his eraAlso 199 FC centuries
Another L for peer reputation more than anything reallyand peer reputation, Hobbs was considered a batting god well into his 40s while Smith is not even decisively rated as the best of his era
Aw, I thought you'd like 40+ Hobbs > Prime HammondAnother L for peer reputation more than anything really
I don't think that's right, but I do like it. And Hobbs being the Master is peer reputation doing it's work. My comment was on Smith.Aw, I thought you'd like 40+ Hobbs > Prime Hammond
tbh I feel like Smith is someone I'll withdraw judgement on for now, Impossible for me to predict his career trajectory.I don't think that's right, but I do like it. And Hobbs being the Master is peer reputation doing it's work. My comment was on Smith.
Somewhat agree actually. Would rather wait for him to retire.tbh I feel like Smith is someone I'll withdraw judgement on for now, Impossible for me to predict his career trajectory.
Pretty sure more that half of the people in SC rate Kohli higher.and peer reputation, Hobbs was considered a batting god well into his 40s while Smith is not even decisively rated as the best of his era
