There's not much in it tbh.

- Botham without his runs vs India averaged only 29, Kapil had a much more even distribution of runs vs decent opposotion.
- Botham sucked against WI with bat and ball unlike Kapil who excelled.
- Botham in the last decade of his career averaged 37(!) with the ball. Though Kapil didn't have a peak as good as Botham, he was never close to worthless like Botham was for ages.

Botham being clearly ahead of Kapil is a total myth imo.
Botham simply was a notably better bat than Kapil while being roughly around the same as a bowler. To me it's quite clear Botham was better.

Botham is better than Kapil due to superior batting. Bowling wise, both are equal. Botham was worst vs Windies while Dev was the best vs Windies.

Botham-Kapil bowling arguments have quite a few layers, Botham was definitely more destructive when in song even in his later years and definitely had a much higher peak but Kapil's durability and consistency are truly admirable and he bowled better vs the best team of his era.

batting wise I think Botham is pretty clearly better imo.

Kapil being the better bowler shouldn't be controversial at all. Botham the better bat, but overall it's close either way.
