Is Jadeja the most underrated cricketer going?

#7-8 averages are superficial but regardless his batting has improved a lot and passes the good #7 test of not looking out of place in the top 6. That's a weird sentence but yeah.

This isnt a good description of his batting anymore. If you didnt know who he was and watched any random jadeja innings from the last few years, you'd go "Yeah that looks like a proper number 6 batsman".
He certainly has batting nous but isn't aesthetic in a way that someone like Stokes or Green is, where they look like they could be world beating batters.

Same with his bowling. Bowls with all the wiles of a Herath but without the tantalising loop and easy action.

I disagree with the thread title, purely because I think he's pretty appropriately rated as in the top 2 all-rounders in the world with Stokes

There are still people questioning whether he’d make an all time India XI, or even the current one (admittedly far less than 1 year ago for the latter).

Hell look at the B-G All Time XI thread - barely a mention. He’s a dead cert at this stage.

I think that's completely fair if people question whether he makes an all-time India XI, considering he's still playing and the competition in front of him. Anyone leaving him out now is off their head tbh

Easy to forget Shakib. he's had 1 year off from competitive cricket. Last time he played a Test was in October 2019.

In that time Jadeja has played against South Africa, Bangladesh, New Zealand and Australia, and he's been beasting it.

Shakib has returned tho, but only in ODIs. Hopefully BD can play some Tests soon so we can see him in action again.

Think they have tests against Windies in this tour, no?

Haven't people been saying he's underrated since forever
One of the rare ones whom I think was overrated at first, then went down to being about rated rightly and was, until very recently, under rated. Think most normal fans and the cricket world have woken up to how good he is now, though.

Also Shakib, for no fault of his, doesn't get to perform on any consistent basis in the big countries. He never got a chance to play in Australia - a shame. He hasn't toured SA since 2008. Also just 2 tests in England. In India too, just one test.

The point is most of the influential opinion makers are from these big countries. Especially the Anglosphere, and they give priority to matches at their home than in Bangladesh. Hence the perennial underrating.

Just noted Shakib averages 73 with the bat in NZ with a double hundred, and 20 in SA with the ball. WAFG!
