The onus was upon the indian team, with the ageing of old stalwarts Dravid, Tendulkar, Ganguly, Laxman, to find newer younger players to take on the brunt of restoring to its halcyon years of 2002-2003. The Indian Domestic Season, had just started, and some younger players were coming through, with exciting talents, and potential just waiting to be tapped. But the seniors, were keen to prove that they still had some fight left in them.

Thats just the beginning, if anyone is interested for me to continue, please post, and i will.[

yashpal singh is pretty good opening batsman although is a little slow scoring, Gagandeep singh is also a pretty decent fast meduim.

And the indian team get off to a very bad start indeed losing to the sinhalese in a onde day friendly by 33 runs, Sehwag and Tendulkar opening the batting failed to get the team of to a good start, and batted too slowly, as well as that. When the time came to up the tempo, both failed , with tendulkar 90 of 130, and sehwag 76 of 105. Batsmen came and went, and tried to slog but at the time it was too late, ending on 221 for 4.

Earlier the sinhalese had posted a score of 246 for 9, thanks to a brillant maiden century by young Paranavitana. None of the bowlers being particularly impressive, in their spells, except for Harbajhan Singh. The turbanator came in at a time, where the sinhalese were scoring at 6 an over, and and did much to restrict them, picking up one wicket, and an overall economy rate of 3. Sridharan Sriram, also contributed with 3 wickets at 57 with three maidens.

The indian team will have to regroup after this loss, and try and make sure they play better to atone for this humilation.

The indian team came into the sri lankan match with a new look side, featuring gagandeep singh, and zaheer khan, with a two spin attack, of harbhajhan and kumble, on a wearing pitch, india were able to win the toss, and bat first. Sehwag and Laxman opening at the top of the order. As with the first time, the openers refused to get a move on, and laxman fell shortly after. But after that, Tendulkar came in and started to play afew shots, but just as he was getting into his stride he was undone, by a wicked flipper from chandana, who got the nick of tendulkar's bat, and sangakarra behind the stumps making no mistake. yuvraj singh came into bat, and got stuck in a rut, and the scoring rate threatened to fall under 3.5 an over, but sehwag soon improved after reaching his 50, and unveiled his traditional square cuts that had been so far missing from his innings. And yuvraj singh as well, got into the act, with a 11 runs of an over from murali, which included a 6. Sehwag ending with a century, and yuvraj with a 50. And the final score, of 224, looked to be a compeititive one, on a wearing track affording some turn to the spinners.

The seamers started economicallly, with gagandeep singh, snaring the crucial wicket of jayasuria, but then attapatu and jayawardene opened up the repertoire, and started playing shots, taking the asking rate, even lower, when the spin twins of harbhajan and kunble were introduced into the attack, the scoring immeadiately dropped, and the turbanator was rewarded with the scalp of both, attapatu and jayawardene, with kumble chipping in with samaraweera. But the problem arose with the fifth bowler, since all the part tiners were being smacked around the park, by tillkaratne dilshan, and Russel Arnold. And that is what cost india the match, albeit a much better performace from them. The Indian team will no doubt take the positives from this match, and apply to the two matches that they have coming up against west indies.

I've just started a indian season too and when I played sri lanka in the first ODI, I had trouble with a fifth bowler but I used Rahul Dravid (SLA - I think) and Ganguly (RMF) and they both got 2 wickets and allowed me to use my fast bowlers at the death.
